Sunderland V Leicester - Sunny Sukhvir Gill

4 incidents I disagree with today
2 fouls when Leicester were in behind that just weren’t not even
defenders appealed.
Hand ball in the box by Leicester var gives it he probably
couldn’t see it
Ballard dragged down when in behind he has no excuse to not give
it, if that’s in the premier league he isn’t refereeing there
the next week.
Other than that he was fine

Regrettably the last incident looked like a cast iron penalty to
Sunderland.

Unfortunately if he referees his first premier league game at
the weekend like that, it won’t go well.
Probably the ‘safest’ referee I’ve watched this season, and by
that I mean he gave a foul every single time a player, for
either team, fell over, contact or otherwise. Sunderland the
main beneficiaries of this, particularly in the first half.
Missed a clear red card for foul by Hume on Mavididi for SFP
midway through the second half, didn’t even give a foul.
Missed a clear penalty and red card for DOGSO for a foul by
Choudhury on Ballard right at the end.
There was a handball shout against Coady also, which he called
correctly. Ball deflected off a Sunderland player onto his arm
from a distance of about a foot.
I must add, I do really like the way he portrays himself. Gives
the impression he has a good rapport with the players and always
has a smile.

I forgot to add another game where the time wasting rules from
the beginning of the season have gone out of the window

I think he will be disappointed with the choudry foul in the
penalty area towards the end as it was stonewall as replays from
behind the goal show his view clearly blocked and he be needed
to be wider to see it .

With regards to the penalty claim, in the stadium I thought it
looked like a cast iron penalty. Having seen a replay, I woukd
now categorise it as a dive. Ballard is heading into the box,
his touch is too heavy and knows he won’t get to the ball, his
legs buckle in a weird fashion before any touch from the
Leicester defender and he hits the deck. For me, never a penalty
and if it was given against my team I would be furious!
Generally thought he was one of the better refs we’ve had the
pleasure of this season. Quite laid back in style. Time keeping
definitely not a strong point - only 4 added second half despite
many subs and a caution for time wasting - think it’s safe to
say the directive has stopped!

I’m glad you’ve said this. As a Leicester fan (so biased), while
he does grab him, the theatrics from Ballard for me make it a
dive. I’m not seeing the same ‘cast iron’ penalty that others
are.
Aside from that, his refereeing style seemed to contribute to
sucking all of the energy out of the game, which didn’t really
help my team get any rhythm once we scored (though that’s our
own problem to figure out).
Hopefully he’ll learn and fix these issues in time.

Watch the legs don’t get distracted by the pull on the shoulder

For what it is worth .....
Live (on the TV) it looked like a stonewall penalty. If this is
true it is a serious refereeing error.
Seeing a reply, it more looked as though the attacking player,
losing control of the ball, felt the slightest of contact and
took the opportunity to go down as if lassoed. Its not as if
professional football players are at all reluctant to "ham up"
any sort of contact to win a decision and/or get an opponent
into disciplinary strife. If this is true then its a great
decision, at a critical point in a high profile game (when it
would have been easier to "go with the flow" and award the
penalty).
I believe - on the balance of probabilities - the latter
scenario to be true.
