Let’s hope Nield doesn’t call off another game unnecessarily
given the distance from Carlisle to South East London!
       [/quote]
I think the weather forecast is OK for this week. I'm sure Mr.
Nield felt he had good reason to postpone his other game (at
Barrow?) - whether it was unnecessary is subjective, I would
       suggest.

Craig Hicks - Doncaster v Crewe
Ok, Crewe weren’t the best however some decisions led to this
defeat also. Even my friend (who knows nothing about football)
said the ref was poor then that sums it up. It was a very
peculiar performance, where it felt everything went to the home
side. 2nd goal for Donny looked offside with 3/4 Crewe players
complaining about that. The Doncaster striker blocked our keeper
from kicking the ball and never got a booking? Strange. Donny
defender tackles from behind and got nothing of the ball, right
in front of AR2 and no foul. I was right by this as well. It
happened last week and now today - no foul for obvious shirt
pulling in the box. Acme, the exact same as last week. Once
again, no penalty. Even worse, he wore yellow.

       Thomas Parsons Morecambe v Wrexham
Looked at the highlights of this game as the Shrimps fans were
not impressed with Mr Parsons' handling of the game. The second
YC for Morecambe's Melbourne seemed incredibly harsh, a clumsy
challenge by an attacking player trying to get to the ball
first, flagged by the AR. No risk to the opponents safety, a
free-kick should have been adequate sanction. Under current
guidance, the Wrexham penalty looked correct; the ball hit at
fairly close range but the defender's arm well away from his
       body

In what was a fairly low key affair, Scott Jackson didn’t make
the best account of himself in my eyes at Barrow yesterday.
There were no howlers by any stretch and there were some
positives, seemed to have a really good relationship with the
players and defused the only couple of times where things got
slightly hot-headed, but there were a few grievances too.
I thought his movement pretty poor and found him not really
leaving the middle third of the pitch too much, whether that’s
his choice or he was carrying some sort of knock/tiredness i’m
not sure, but there were several poor calls and I believe it may
have been due to having a more impaired angle. The most
frustrating of which was the free kick that led to the opener,
it was right in front of our fans so I probably had a better
view of it than him, but there was certainly nothing caused by
the defender to force the attacker to ground, he may have
clipped his own heels or just fell through natural body to body
contact but there was no impeding.
The other comment i’d have is less than expected added on time,
Barrow were very good at taking just enough to waste time but
not long enough for a card on nearly every dead ball, I think it
deceived Scott a little and whilst I wouldn’t have expected any
yellows, 5 minutes in the second half was very light. 4 in the
first half too with multiple injury stoppages, so perhaps he was
feeling the cold as we all were!
Having said that, the officials were still the second best team
on the pitch - I worry my posts will be in the National League
forum next season at this rate!

Sorry I poorly worded that. What I meant was “ he’s knows stuff
about football etc but thought the ref was poor”

Thomas Kirk - Forest Green v Walsall….a mixed performance would
be the politest way to describe this one, and before anyone
throws an accusation of sour grapes at me, it’s not, Walsall
were equally as poor as team ref on the day.
Of the major incidents, of which there was a few, he appeared to
get a penalty to Walsall correct, a red card for 2 yellows for a
Walsall defender right alongside hough the first was debatable
(more of that later) the second yellow you couldn’t even give
any benefit of the doubt to. The big error IMO was the penalty
awarded to Forest Green. Goalkeeper comes sliding out to meet
onrushing attacker, clearly gets there first and cleanly pushes
the ball out to the side and to almost everyone’s amazement he
points to the spot. An unbelievable decision which even Forest
Green didn’t seem to appeal for. He really should have been
helped out by AR1 but probably wasn’t judging by the speed he
       gave it.
Was inconsistent with foul detection, missed a clear late
challenge early on not even giving a free kick, which resulted
in a Walsall player having to off injured. After rightly booking
a Walsall forward for a leading with the arm aerial challenge,
didn't caution an identical one less than 5 mins later.
Went for the easy option of cautioning a player from each side
after one tetchy situation where i think he gave what he guessed
had happened, rather than what had actually happened and
better/more in control/ experienced/ referee might have managed
them and that situation better. That the Walsall one was the
first of his 2 yellows made that one look even harsher later.
On the whole, judging by recent appointments and on this game,
he fits the profile of a young, card happy referee who will be
promoted earlier to SG2 than his current ability warrants,
although on the plus side for a few on here is that we are
unlikely to see him in the depths of L2 again that often…so
       every cloud and all that.

Paul Howard and team saved a trip to Essex this evening with a

       called off for us…

With rain forecast in these parts until late afternoon sadly
there was unlikely to be any improvement. Fortunately the timing
of the postponement has prevented a number of wasted journeys.
