P TIERNEY - Forest v Liverpool

Haven’t seen any footage but sounds like a very messy ending to
the game with yellow and red cards flashed and the Forest owner
on the field too.
Will be interesting to hear any comments/observations on this as
it doesn’t sound good at all.

Could have been the potential pen.right decision though.or that
Liverpool didn’t give the ball back when ref dropped it or added
time??bad scenes at end with chairman on side

From what I understand via a particularly upset Forest fan, this
is what happened: a Liverpool defender was flattened by his
goalkeeper from a corner, Forest were in control of the ball
outside the penalty area, Tierney then stopped play, and
subsequently restarted with a drop ball to the goalkeeper
instead of returning it to Forest. The Liverpool goal followed
shortly thereafter.
I await to see the footage, but if it is as described then that
does sound like an incorrect restart.

I'm sure in law because the injury is in the area its a dropped
ball to the keeper

Weirdly, this exact incident also happened in our game at
Salford on Tuesday, I thought it was a mistake at the time. A
Salford defender had a head injury from a corner, we still had
posession just inside the box, Kirsty Dowle correctly stopped
play but restarted with a drop ball to the Salford goalkeeper.
Weird that it’s happened twice in a few days, has there been any
sort of rule change I wonder? If not, frustrating in both
instances

Not automatically - depends on when the play was stopped by the
referee. If he’s stopped it before the ball leaves the penalty
area or before someone touches it outside the area, it would go
to the keeper.

Interesting indeed. In your example it sounds like Dowle
restarted correctly if the ball hadn’t left the penalty area
when she stopped play. The complaint from Forest appears to be
that play was only stopped once Forest had possession outside
the penalty area.

Regardless of what happened, the owner of Forest should be fined
and sanctioned, coming down from the stand like that to yel
abuse, disgusting. A bit of karma will be coming his way after
their hearing this week!

And I really don’t like Mark Clattenburg going on Five Live as a
representative of Forest criticising the decision of the referee
and quasi justifying the actions of the chairman.

I am yet to see this but listening to the radio it would seem
Forest has it under control outside the area and PT gave the
ball to the GK after play was stopped for an injury in the box.
As for the Forest Owner…… I do not and never will condone this
sort of behaviour.
These are meant to be the best referees in the country and this
is not a complex or subjective decision. The 4 of them are wrong
in law for a basic restart and it should not happen at that
level.
There is no excuse for this bad behaviour but you can see why
frustration boils over, when a team looses attacking possession
and then concedes a very short time after.
Law says.
“Procedure
•
their penalty area if, when play was stopped:
•
•
•
of the team that last touched the ball at the position where it
last touched a player, an outside agent or, as outlined in Law
9.1, a match official
•
(4.5 yds) from the ball until it is in play
The ball is in play when it touches the ground.”
