Nice to see jones on the big derby game. Great games for ward
and Webb.
Langford from the West Midlands doing a West Midlands team?
Can’t be right surely?

It is the third West Brom match Langford has taken charge of
this season. He officiated his first Villa match earlier in the
season as well as a couple of Birmingham City games last season.
It's only fair that as many teams as possible get endure Mr
Langford's officiating.

Robert Jones is very similar to Stuart Attwell, far too young to
be promoted to the Premier League at this time.

I don't actually know his age but that, I suggest, is
irrelevant. The question is "is he good enough?" and the
answer, from what I have seen is almost certainly he is, or at
least good enough to be given an opportunity. The reason for
Stuart Attwell's fall from grace was, at that time, not his age
but he simply wasn't good enough. I am pleased to say that he
seems to be on the upward path again although I have my
reservations as to whether he is worthy of his FIFA badge yet
but these things seem to be determined by age rather than
ability these days.

Simply put he was pushed too far too soon by Lord Elleray in his
quest to get him fast tracked.

I agree that some referees have been pushed through the system
far too quickly in the past. However, I don’t believe that we
should be punishing our promising up and coming officials for
the mistakes of their colleagues that came before them.
Jones almost got promoted last season (was at the assessment
day) and has been given another season to improve his experience
refereeing competitive championship fixtures as opposed to
holding up boards for SG1. He is also older than you all seem to
think. I’m almost sure he’s 30! If you’re good enough, you’re
old enough!

I guess the mentor kind of helps.
If you compare Attwell who had the Lord Elleray at his "guide"
and I believe Kavanagh has been under the tutorship of Wiley,
Kavanagh is streets ahead of where Attwell was at the same
juncture in their careers.

Couldn’t agree more TheThingFromLewes... I always liked Alan
Wiley as a SG1 referee and it seems he’s now ably helping
promote some talent through our system for the future.
I think personality helps too. Having met Kavanagh and Jones a
while back I can safely say both seem like they have their feet
firmly on the ground, and this matters a lot in my opinion!

Another excellent test for Rob Jones - I really hope he can
continue his excellent form since his promotion to the FL list.
If I was in charge of SG refs, he would definitely be given a
couple of low key PL games as we head towards the end of the
season!
