Newcastle v AFCB - Michael Salisbury

Wore orange so started the game in missy bmb's good books.
Took a very lenient approach to the game but I feel in the main
was consistent with that. He did step up to the plate when
needed though & the game was never out of his control. I will
say though that I thought us very lucky to go in at the break
with all 11 players still on the pitch and only Christie in the
book. Christie got away with a YC worthy foul about 5 mins
before he did finally get a YC, (2nd week running!) Senesi I
feel also got away with one and did eventually go into the book.
The penalty against us was correct. There was an offside as
well, well player in an offside position is more accurate & it
took a while to determine if he was offside in terms of an
offence, which would have come first in the order of play, it
was finally determined that no it wasn't an offside offence and
therefore the absolutely idiotic shirt pull by Smudge was
therefore a penalty. Utter stupidity, what player thinks to pull
another players shirt, and it wasn't just a sneaky little tug,
it was a full blown yank and hold it, in the penalty box with 24
cameras and VAR... Rhetorical question but Smudge would be the
correct answer *rolls eyes* I'd love to know how many times he
has cost us a game with stupid acts like this, it must be well
into double figures. Actually I'm probably better off not
knowing! Love Smudge but he has that 1 moment in what feels like
every game where he des something just so stupid. *sigh* Stats
wise Newcastle topped us in every stat going but it has to be
said we had the better chances and caused their keeper more
issues, he made a couple of cracking and vital saves. Both ARs
had decent games, didn't notice anything that made me tutt at
the time anyway!
Overall happy with team ref, perhaps more than Newcastle who
might feel aggrieved about the lack of YC's. It wasn't just us,
the blond lad up front for them should have been booked for
delaying the restart for example. Both sets of players seemed to
enjoy the freedom and left any silliness in the dressing rooms
and just got on with it. Some lovely football from both sides
and the +10 TAO in the 2nd half was an utter joy to watch.

Agree with most of that bmb but would question whether the
penalty really meets the threshold for VAR intervention. We're
told that VAR only gets involved in shirt pulling at dead ball
situations where that shirt pulling has consequence e.g. clearly
prevents someone from playing the ball. Otherwise VAR would give
a penalty at every set-piece. There was no prospect of Schar
playing that ball so VAR shouldn't really be getting involved
there.
Also, blowing for full-time, when Bournemouth had won a corner,
dead on the signalled ten minutes, when there had been
substitutions and a goal in injury time was just plain wrong.
How Premier League referees continue to make a mess of
timekeeping is baffling.

Good point about whether or not it met VAR intervention
threshold. I have no idea to be honest, I suspect the day I
finally fully understand what UEFAs IFABs version of clear and
obvious is will be the day they change to criteria to something
equally as baffling and unclear!
I don't have too much of a problem with him blowing for time
before the corner was taken, natural stoppage in play and a safe
moment. 10 mins was a pretty good judgement in the first place
but I think we will be arguing the amount of TAO forever more
and when is the "right" moment to call proceedings to a halt.

Seen a lot less given this season in terms of shirt pulling and
VA|R interventions, and also seen a lot more not given. No
consistency on what these incidents should be given.
Makes a mockery when clear pulls have been ignored and this and
the Man City one at Old Trafford were given on VAR review!

Sadly not. Amazing ground to visit but your away fan wheelchair
allocation is utter pants to put it politely and mildly! I did
come up for one of your European games earlier in the season but
was in the posh area for that one!

Sadly not. Amazing ground to visit but your away fan wheelchair

Dermot made a right pigs ear of explaining this on ref watch
this morning, just kept saying that's what he has been told
rather than explain law.

That's ludicrous bmb. There were clear stoppages within added
time that the LotG require time to be added on for. He failed to
do so. Thats an objective failure to uphold the laws. That can't
just be let go because the ref fancied making his life a bit
easier. If he can't get the basics right...

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. TAO is always discussed
after every game & never felt long enough & rarely if ever gets
extended beyond the original minimum announced. We'll be having
those same conversations every week until they take the time
keeping away from the ref and use an actual time keeper. They
are advised to blow in a natural break in play, which he did.
He's not going to take into account how many corners we have
scored from this season and whether that fact makes a corner a
goal scoring opportunity for us & therefore not a good moment to
blow.
