FA Cup 4th Round Replay - Argyle v Leeds - Robert Jones

Hi all, not a usual poster, usually stay lurking in the
background but I feel the need to come here tonight now that
I've dried off. Quite atrocious conditions here in Plymouth
tonight but I must say, as someone who finds it very easy to
complain about the officials, Robert Jones, Dan Cook and Stuart
Burt have just given in my opinion a masterclass.
Jones was calm throughout, had a good rapport with the players.
Allowed the game to flow as best he could in the tough weather
and it helped the match prove to be a decent cup tie. Clear to
see why Cook and Burt are with Michael Oliver most of the time.
Jones is an official I've admired for a while now and I hope he
lands himself a decent game between now and the end of the
       season.
Without a doubt, the best performance of the season by an
officiating team. Class above what we've seen. Well done to all
       involved.

Nice to see someone prompted to come along and post to praise a
performance, we tend to only see non regular posters when they
       want to have a rant!

I agree with all of the above and thought it was really good
that the BBC commentators commended Jones and his team more than
once. Credit too to the managers, players and fans for
persevering on what was an atrocious night to be playing or
       watching football.
One rather telling remark from the commentator after one of the
ARs flagged for offside. It went something like, "good to see an
early flag and a confident flag knowing that VAR could not
intervene to overturn the decision". Food for thought?

First class performance from all of them. It was a cracking
match to watch and the officials played their part. This is the
kind of performance that got Jones onto the radar for the very
       top.
I have to say, most of the time I’ve watched SG1 without big
brother in their ear in the cup matches, they look more relaxed
and they seem to enjoy it more.

The opportunity is there for them to see this happen every week.
The TV companies just need to stay away from the ten Premier
League matches and show some of the hundreds of other matches
between all the other clubs. That would focus a few
       (commercially driven) minds.

This is the myth that keeps getting perpetuated though. The on
pitch officials hear absolutely nothing from VAR until after
decisions have been made, there is no one "in their ears" until
after they have made a decision.

This is true, however there must be the forethought in their
minds that they may have got it wrong, and that element of doubt
       is always a nagging feeling.
They must have some trepidation that VAR may throw them under a
       bus with a stupid referral.
