It’s not but I understand the point you’re trying to make.
VAR is doing what it was always going to do. It’s just not doing
what people want it to.
It will never do what people want it to because there are too
many people who have too many different expectations of it.
People spent 25 years bleating about how we wanted and needed
technology.
They’ll spend the next 25 saying how much better things were
when we didn’t have it.
Take it away and within a week they’ll be screaming for it back.
This is how it is and I doubt it’s going to change much. Find a
way to live with it must be the advice here??

The two for Chelsea last night were similar, the first one I
thought wasn't even close to being a penalty, the second I
thought probably was but it wasn't a clear and obvious error to
not give it.

I thought they now have to consider whether the contact was
enough for the player to fall over.

I think things would be (even more?) chaotic if you were to
apply that to every official acting as VAR - it would mean
Gillett would be expected to uphold a similar penalty if he was
VAR at the weekend but Tierney would be expected to overturn it,
all because of decisions they gave when they last refereed a
match.

for the penalty and understand why there was a just a slight
delay before the Wolves player fell to the ground. That apart,
no problem with Gillett whose YCs were correct, especially the
one to Casemiro for that stupid foul (all too typical I'm
afraid) in the second minute. The only surprise was he managed
to avoid a second YC.

I'm not convinced there was any contact either. For me, the
attacker just seemed to pass the defender, do a donkey kick and
fall to the ground. If there was any contact, it was the merest
of touches and certainly not enough to impeded the attacker in
any way or cause him to fall down in such a dramatic fashion.
Although I don't like it or condone it, I can understand why
several defenders wagged their fingers in protest, as if to say
there was no contact. Good job the goal from the penalty kick
didn't affect the overall result.

Jota was rightly chastised on here the other week for falling
under minimal if any contact against Newcastle yet with the
wolves player last night all I’ve read so far is “penalty soft
but supportable, not a clear and obvious error, minimal
contact.” Why not the same comments on the wolves player?? I
have my suspicions.
So Let’s be clear. There was no contact and the player dived to
win a penalty. To give it on field was a poor decision but for
Tierney to support it on var is scandalous. It’s no wonder fans
are fed up with the whole thing
Decision ruined what was a great performance from Gillett and
was the only blot on what aaa a fantastic game of football

I said it was supportable because Martial got one ( I think it
was against Newcastle ) he was originally booked for diving but
minimal contact was made and penalty given , if that’s a penalty
then last night probably was ok there was less contact last
night

They do, but deciding whether contact was enough to send a
player over is a very subjective decision and that really rules
out any potential VAR involvement.

There are hundreds of games per season maybe millions of
individual incidents. Every time something happens we can’t keep
saying well this happened in this game so…
It doesn’t work like that. It physically can’t work like that.
What’s the expectation here? That every current referee has a
database of every other decision/non decision in every other
game given or not given by every other referee!
I don’t think we can keep comparing all the time, it doesn’t get
us anywhere. The level of consistency that is apparently
expected is totally unachievable .
