Paul Tierney - Liverpool v Chelsea

This is some game. Chelsea can feel very aggrieved at the
decisions in this, particularly the foul by Van Dijk on Nkunku
just then (much more contact than the penalty given to
       Liverpool)
Amazed VAR did not get involved.

I think both Chelsea penalty shouts were clear and obvious
       overturns.

I would agree. Van Dijk’s thigh impedes Gallagher for the first
one and his arm also blocks him. The second one on Nkunku I just
       do not understand.
The Liverpool penalty was correct - clear contact (same as for
the two not awarded to Chelsea).
Liverpool by far the better team but big decisions in their
       favour.

I dont think Herr Klopp will be complaining about Mr Tierney
       tonight.
Two penalties for Chelsea not given or overturned.

Not often I’ve said it but credit where it’s due, good
performance from Paul Tierney with no real contentious decisions
       - Chelsea claiming a couple of half-hearted penalty appeals that
really had nothing going for them.
Rare incident at the end with Liverpool given an attacking, i.e.
edge of the box, free kick but the final whistle was blown
       before it was taken.

Can tell you are biased because Chelsea definitely should of had
1 penalty that was stone wall could of had 2 and Liverpool
pretty much had all the decisions go there way

It seems Tierney has decided he needs to start being extra nice
to Herr Klopp given his impending departure!
Two main calls were wrong for the 2 non Chelsea pens. Good call
for a dive by Chilwell. Good couple of advantages, especially
for the 2nd Liverpool goal. Looked like he was getting in the
way sometimes with poor positioning. By his previous standards
in Liverpool games it wasn't bad I thought, but I fear that
perhaps could be me thinking with red tinted glasses on!

Yes, very good call on the Colwill dive - though then ignored a
clear foul on the same player when running down the wing a
       couple of minutes later.
Liverpool seemed to get a lot of decisions in their favour (the
foul leading to Caicedo’s early booking was particularly wrong),
but the main thing is the two penalties which clearly would have
changed the game dramatically, despite Liverpool being by far
       the better team.

I thought Tierney was good which given the bad press he has
received in the past was good to see.
The two Chelsea penalty claims were imho rightly not overturned.
Significant contact, whether the player did enough to stay on
his feet makes it impossible to decide what has actually
happened and referees are understandably unwilling to award
penalties and VAR to overturn them.
ESPN reviewed those VAR decisions which went "against" Chelsea
and felt VAR was right not to intervene. More helpfully they
compare incidents with earlier ones in the season which supports
the decisions in this game while acknowledging the inconsistency
       from game to game.
Chelsea may have been unlucky especially as had they been given
2 penalties I doubt the decision would have been overturned by
VAR. Nevertheless, Tierney's decisions were justifiable.
Liverpool were good and worthy winners.
