Disgraceful behaviour from the idiotic Vale fan who charged like
a bull in a china shop towards Hicks near the end of the match.
Luckily Hicks saw what was coming and took evasive action.
Heaven knows what would or could have happened. Let’s hope he is
       banned for life.

I suspect one or more of his colleagues were in his ear to tell
       him to take evasive action.
Banned for life is a minimum, he really should be looking at a
       spell inside.

If that’s the standard coming up from the national league, then
we’re in for a shock. For a debut, it didn’t go too well for
Stephen. It was such a poor choice to put an efl debut referee
on considering recent games issues. However, that’s no excuse.
Never cut down on time wasting by Salford - especially first
half. Every time someone went down he gave it…
Added time rule gone then. 5 mins in the second half was poor.
Salford keeper down twice, time wasting, 2 goals, plenty subs
and fouls. I thought at least 8 mins but no. Better required for
       next time.
I feel quite sorry for Marc Edwards, every time something went
against Salford, Karl Robinson was in his ear. If I was the FO,
I would’ve got him booked. Way too much moaning, but that’s Karl
       for you.

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Salford City FC (First Team)
       Football League 2
       Referee: Parkinson, Stephen
       Assistant Referee: Howick, Kevin
       Assistant Referee: Williams, Ollie
       Fourth Official: Edwards, Marc
For the sake of clarity, here is what we are referring to. The
good points about Stephen, tall, thin, regulation trim on top,
clearly fit and looking to do well at the start of his first EFL
game as a referee (I believe). Bad points - what followed during
the game, over which he never seemed to have any control. Ok,
foul detection and yellow cards were on the whole correct, but
it was all so robotic and he seemed to have precious little
rapport with the players. How he missed a nasty challenge by a
Salford player near the dugout, I really don't know, and,
fortunately for him, the 4O Marc Edwards came to his rescue and
the caution was issued a minute or two later. And lest I be
accused of bias, how Stephen and AR2 Ollie Williams missed a
blatant foul by a Crewe player in the penalty area, with the
score at 2-2, beggars belief. Fortunately for them, Salford
scored the winning goal from the corner. Crewe didn't deserve to
lose, but Salford knew all the tricks and I am absolutely
certain that Karl Robinson would have briefed the team that they
had a 'rookie' referee in charge and played accordingly. I hope
this was just a bad start for Stephen, rather in the way of
David Rock at Crewe and Josh Smith at Plymouth a few years back,
and I wish him well for his future in refeeeing.

I agree, thought it was a blatant foul. Having said that, he
missed a few other fouls as well.

Alex was excellent guest speaker at Basildon RA recently.
Relocation is a combination of refereeing and his other job in
       music.
