Main Decisions for me:
- Red card for Brewster correct, should have got that one first
time and not relied on VAR
- Red card for Coufal correct but could have avoided if they got
the easy decision above correct in the first place (avoiding the
1st yellow for dissent). I've also seen much worse dissent not
punished recently, it wasn't the worst case in the world. 2nd
yellow correct.
- Penalty for West Ham correct
- Penalty for Sheff Utd incorrect, not much in it and the
attacker elbowed him in the face
- Non-penalty for Bowen correct, Bowen initiated the contact,
six of one and half a dozen of the other

I await Howard Webb's review of this game! It is interesting how
many different opinions there are about the incidents at the end
of the game and Clattenburg is very critical.
Feel for the referee. How often do you have so many incidents
like this in such a short space of time? Not often and from the
referee's perspective, thank goodness.
My views? I no longer know what a foul is so I will kep
quiet....

Sorry but taking his performances over the season, both on field
and VAR, I honestly have to question whether Michael is quite up
to SG1 requirements

Peter Walton writing in the Times is usually very supportive of
referees and their decisions but, by his standards, he is quite
critical of Michael Salisbury today.
I seem to remember that Salisbury's rise was very swift and I
wasn't aware he had particularly distinguished himself before
his elevation to SG2 and then SG1. I think his promotions and
the speed of them took a few people by surprise. My view is that
he isn't anywhere near the class of John Brooks or Sam Barrott.

Salisbury was on VAR for the Palace v Everton Cup Tie and was
instrumental in Calvert Lewins erroneous dismissal When
yesterday's Brewster tackle occurred he gave a yellow card
before VAR got involved
The last minute non penalty was up to his standards Before
hitting Bowen's arm it struck the offending Blade on the arm

Let's be honest about the last minute non-penalty though ebcause
if it did hit the offending Blade on the arm it couldn't be
called handball because his arms were in a natural position for
anyone making a rugby tackle.

Poor from Salisbury having seen his recent games his trying to
allow more to go and keep game flowing but all that is happening
is flash point decisions and the shocking tackle from Brewster
which he has to give as red himself if he thought that was only
yellow was amazing !!
Another SG1 ref that could do with getting his card out more to
gain control of players that after 5-10 game run will see him
given more on field respect, I fear players don’t know Salisbury
benchmark

I suppose the argument being had the referee got it right in the
first instance (as he 100% should have) then the dissent
wouldn't have taken place? I would think its a lot easier for
players to just not argue (especially knowing there will be a
VAR review) and guarantee they won't get a yellow. Don't like
the idea of dissent being more tolerable in some way when a
decision is wrong. The law, surely, is there to protect the
referee, not the decision.
