VAR check all goals, but they can't check something that
happened before play was restarted and a goal scored.
I'm not sure it made that much of a difference anyway. Even
after the ball was moved Ryan Yates spotted a problem and told
the keeper who told him it was fine and did nothing about it,
Yates was clearly saying they needed another player in the wall.
As much very poor goalkeeping as it was poor sportsmanship.

While I agree in principle, the problem would be that it would
lead to longer delays after every goal while they have to go
back to check that the restart was 100% correct. For example:
forensic examination of whether part of the ball was overhanging
the corner arc when the corner was taken; was the ball moving by
the tiniest amount when the free kick was taken; should the free
kick have been two inches to the left and consequently did that
       make a difference to whether the goal would have been scored;
was the thrower's foot touching the ground at the point of
delivery or was it a millimetre off?
       A slippery slope, I fear.

That's a shame. An act of cheating leading to a goal has to be
ignored?! Maybe it's time the protocols were extended.

All your points above are dealt with every week by officials
outside of the elite matches and are accepted or argued about by
players, managers etc. but they just get on with the game
without any forensic examination or outside interference from
       anyone.
Players move the ball for set pieces, hardly ever retreat 10
yards for free kicks, take throw ins from anywhere within twenty
yards of where the ball went out and then often lift their
trailing foot, frequently place the ball outside the corner
quadrant if they are on the opposite side to the AR.
It appears to me that there is a culture throughout the game to
try to get away with anything and everything. Yes, we used to
try the odd thing when I was playing and I knew most of the
tricks when I officiated, however, it really does seem to be
taking over and VAR is not stopping anything at all.

I take your point, ARF, in general terms; however, in blatant,
clear situations as this, I feel VAR should be able to notify
the on-field Referee of what's happened so that appropriate
action can be taken. I appreciate that it's probably never going
       to happen. (Edited)
       [/quote]
Hypothetically i know If var were to advise the on field referee
and a retake was ordered there would be no chance of getting the
ball positioned correctly for a retake.

Point taken. I didn't know what else to call it in order to
describe exactly what it was, in my opinion. I could have said
"severe gamesmanship" but even that doesn't cut it. Polite
       reminder accepted though.

I understand the need to be careful in the use of language and
fully take on board your point, but on this occasion I thought
that admitting to 232 breaches could be described as 'cheating
the rules' and thus isn't an (unfounded) allegation, but merely
a description of what happened. I apologise if better words were
available. My original point which I stand by, is why was Toney
treated like a hero by Brentford and the media?

They could do a freeze frame (which VAR is the expert in using)
like in the snooker when the referee has to re-place the balls.
VAR could be in his ear. Left a bit, right a bit....

I also wondered why Toney was given a hero’s welcome , ok the
fans have missed him but the way he was introduced like a WWE
wrestler with all the strobe lightning etc was frankly
       embarrassing
