WHy did Darren England give a foul throw when Ward-Prowse lifted
       his back foot?
Surely this no longer applies because it is never penalised week
in or week out by any official, therefore, I thought that it was
another IFAB Law change which I had missed, there have been so
       many. [emoji2]

Red card was absolutely correct and a good spot.
Missed a clear red for SFP by Williams for Bristol City though.
It’s clear after this week England’s ability to identify these
challenges is very poor, that’s 3 he’s called incorrectly in the
       space of 3 days.

England didn't have a good 'insight angle' into the (SFP) tackle
early in the game. Stood here, see below, I'd like to think he'd
       have issued a red card.
       [attach=1]
Benrahma was rightly sent off (good alertness from teammates!)
but not to caution the reckless tackle which preceded the VC is
       a significant miss, imo.

I was surprised that the experts felt that the Williams tackle
was merely a YC. I can see how it could be missed if England's
line of sight was different to the camera angle and the player
did get the ball. However he did then ride over the ball and
catch the West Ham player. I thought England was OK, a difficult
match to referee with much ill feeling between the 2 teams. VAR
would be needed to bale him out and Moyes said that he wished
all the games had VAR, an implied criticism of at least one
decision. He did have no argument with the sending off though.

Amused and bemused by David Moyles' comment "....amazing they
call this one of the biggest cup competitions but we don't have
VAR in all the games". Clearly, he's unaware that VAR can (and
does) only operate at PL grounds at present. You'd think he
       should know that.

Had this replay been at West Ham Bristol C may well have had a
red card or two. That is the problem and one I sympathise with
Moyes with. How can we have different games in the competition
being used to different rules and standards. Either all games
       have VAR or none do.
I personally wouldn’t have it at all. England failed to send off
the Bristol c as he isn’t in the correct position to see the
incident fully as mikael w shows above

I agree with the posters so far that England missed a clear red
card from Williams first half. I would though applaud the
teamwork for the red card for Benrahma’s reaction though,
although the initial challenge should definitely have been
cautioned too (if as suggested above it wasn’t)?
My issue is that as a referee you could clearly see that the
game was feisty and before the Williams challenge you just knew
a bigger tackle was coming and he did nothing to control the
       situation.
This is about smelling the danger earlier. If that means giving
a few simple soft free kicks to gain back control then so be it…
but he clearly didn’t see it coming (which is a bigger issue and
one he struggled with multiple times when watching him on the
Championship years ago). However, the problem with preventative
refereeing is you’ll get so called experts on sites like this
saying his foul detection is “random” because he’s refereeing by
a feeling of the game to keep control and maybe giving a few
soft ones to keep his foot on it.
Overall I just think England needs help and support to get his
confidence back after the incident at Spurs earlier in the
season. And maybe needs to think about being more preventative
in his approach to controlling a game.

Where do you draw the line with rules and standards? Either all
games are played at Wembley or none are. Either all games have
SG1 referees or none do. Either all dugouts have heated seats
or none do. Surely we just use the best available at all times.

Very poor from England imo, 2/3 missed yellows in first half,
missed Red for Bristol City player for the slap /punch round the
head of the West Ham player - blame equally on Steve Martin
would of loved to of known what he said. I feel England now
needs to be less reluctant to show the card if in doubt but his
SFP detection has been awful over the last 2/3 years
