Tue 23rd Jan 2024
Burton Albion FC (First Team) v Cheltenham Town (First Team)
Football League 1
Referee: Smith, Lewis
Assistant Referee: Brown, Conor
Assistant Referee: Cheosiaua, Ravel
Fourth Official: Buckley, Karl
[/quote]
This game has now been postponed to allow Cheltenham to play
Bolton instead after Saturday's match was abandoned when a fan
had a cardiac arrest and sadly later died.
Due to Bolton still being in the EFL trophy and (until tomorrow
night at least...) the FA Cup, as well as having had a few other
games rescheduled due to cup fixtures/international break
postponements, the club's fixture list is pretty much full for
every weekend and midweek until the end of the season. Next
Tuesday is available for Bolton, but Cheltenham were due to play
Burton.
Well done and fair play to Burton Albion club, team and fans,
for agreeing to postpone that game with 8 days notice and
tickets already sold, to allow the Bolton/Cheltenham fixture to
be replayed.
I don't know if the officials that were due to be at Burton will
work the Bolton game instead as no appointments for the
Bolton/Cheltenham match have been mentioned anywhere yet.

Indeed, saved me a trip at least! Early thoughts are that I may
head to see Matt Corlett at London Road, mainly for the game but
he’s not an official i’ve seen before.

Games also off tomorrow at Cheltenham in L1 and AFC Wimbledon,
Bradford City and Swindon in L2 (BBC Football). Although milder
weather is expected to arrive tomorrow, I respect the decisions
to call the games off early to save fans having costly and
wasted journeys. Hoping there won't be too many more
postponements.

Bolton Wanderers v Cheltenham Town
Referee: Speedie, Benjamin
Assistant Referee: Simpson, Joe
Assistant Referee: Wade, Stephen
Fourth Official: Jones, Mark
Apart from Ben Speedie replacing Sunny Singh Gill (who's already
working the MK Dons game) it's the same officials as the
original fixture that was abandoned last weekend.

Ed Duckworth being on the Mansfield game Tuesday night means he
will have to be taken off his premier league cup (international
I think) on Wednesday.

Sam Purkiss has made himself unpopular with Barnsley fans for
calling off their game at Stevenage at around 1pm. The pitch
wasn't fit when he inspected this morning. In current weather
conditions, it's unlikely to improve in a couple of hours.
At least our match against Bradford City was called off
yesterday. Having seen the state of the pitch today, they might
be struggling to get their game on Tuesday evening played. It
isn't just frozen, it's a mud bath.

With another storm on the horizon a mud bath may well turn into
a lake by Tuesday.
