Darren England - Coventry vs Leicester
DIR By: Ref95

Oh dear oh dear, Mr England is deemed by the PGMOL to be not
good enough for the premier league and it’s clear to see why.
Correct decision to award a penalty for a foul by Thomas on
Dewsbury-Hall for serious foul play, however England somehow
failed to show a red card to Thomas.
3 minutes later, another awful decision to send Fatawu off for
what was a reckless tackle.
From that point any match control was gone. Foul detection was
completely random, as was the issuing of cards.
Clearly hasn’t regained his confidence following his horrendous
error in the Spurs vs Liverpool game.

Having seen the highlights, the penalty is incorrect for me as
the Coventry player clearly wins the ball although it did look a
penalty in real time so can understand why he gave it. The red
card was absolutely spot on, the Leicester player was out of
control and made contact with excessive force which caused the
Coventry player to flip.

Thought England ruined the game, never had full control and was
inconsistent with his decision making.
Not good enough for premier league, shouldn’t be anywhere near
the championship

Winning the ball is irrelevant if it’s endangered the opponent,
which it clearly has.
Red card would have been overturned had VAR been available.

You’ve said that it “clearly has” endangered the opponent and
then you’ve said the red card would have been overturned.
That doesn’t seem right???

I can support the red card even though I thought it was reckless
rather than SFP. The penalty for me is not. Player wins ball
clearly then there is natural contact from tackle.

I don’t think it’s a red, yellow maybe as there was nothing
dangerous. I wonder if he was slightly influenced by giving a
50/50 penalty a couple of minutes earlier.

Rhys is right - the red card is absolutely stick on, a terrible
flying tackle; a decision worthy of praise by Darren England.
The penalty is more wrong than right but the decision is still
supportable imo. Can't speak as for the rest of the game!

Yes, as I said before, the tackle by Thomas endangered the
safety of the opponent and so should have been a red card.
The tackle by Fatawu (red card) was reckless, hence would have
been overturned by VAR.

Appreciate you are entitled to your opinion and this kind of
incident is subjective, but which box does it tick for SFP?
He’s reckless admittedly, but certainly not out of control or
endangering his opponent, studs are not high, the only contact
with the opponent is the shin of his trailing leg. It’s a clear
yellow but never a red.
England has reacted too hastily in the moment without giving
himself time to think.
