Good games for Brooks and Kavanagh. Suprised Michael Oliver
hasn't got a game but that probably means he will get one of the
Carabao Cup semi-final second legs or he is away at some sort of
Uefa Seminar although I don't know if there is one scheduled for
this month. No game for Gillett either which probably suggests
he's either doing one of the Fa Cup replays or is gonna get a
Carabao Cup semi-final also.
I think when a referee doesn't get an appointment at all in any
capacity it normally just means they are unavailable for
whatever reason as opposed to anything else. I believe Oliver
was replaced as VAR at the weekend too.
I guess it's possible someone at PGMOL has been reading this
forum and decided they'd better not appoint Oliver to any games
until it becomes clearer where Newcastle might finish in the
league :)

Robinson with a big mileage claim to hold the numbers board…
Its the pgmol reducing their carbon footprint😂
How do referees actually get to games? Assume he will fly,
probably the same as Kav after the game on Saturday up in
Newcastle before his VAR appointment. Not good appointing for
me. Long way to, drive from Ashton to Newcastle then flight
down to London. Then assuming his car can teleport, drive back
to Ashton.
He doesn't live in Ashton, or even anywhere near to it.
Kavanagh does doesn't he, Ashton Under Lyme.
No he doesn't. He may well have lived there many years ago but
he doesn't live there now and hasn't done so for many years. He
doesn't even live anywhere in the Greater Manchester area. I
have said this a million times on here when all the 'he
shouldn't get the Manchester teams because he lives there'
complete and utter rubbish starts.

Yes that stuff is none sense even if he did live in Manchester.
However, regardless of where he lives its still a long way from
Newcastle and Shockley Park

I don’t see the travel as a massive burden. Quick flights and
use of hire cars I’m sure it’s easy.

As i said earlier just the pgmol reducing their carbon
footprint, not.

On the subject of how referees travel to the matches they'll be
officiating, I recall seeing Kevin Friend on a London North
Western train heading to Liverpool the night before he
officiated an Everton match in 2018/19 ish.
He alighted at Runcorn so I assume he stayed in a hotel there
and was taxied to Goodison Park the following morning. Nice
bloke and engaged in some friendly conversation with other
passengers.

Why the emphasis on flying when for many of the journeys
involved rail would be a better alternative, even before
considering the carbon footprint?
Given the current state of the railways I am not sure that rail
is ever a better alternative given the importance of arriving at
the appropriate time (or day).

Kavanagh lives between Blackburn and Manchester so he could go
to Manchester and park then fly to his game and then fly back to
VAR appointment then fly to Manchester to collect his car. The
appointment secretaries do need to show common sense with
appointment and make sure that officials can get the adequate
rest between games whilst travelling.
