Thought was a full blooded cup tie if which Craig played his
part and was excellent IMO.

Apart from the obvious kit issues for the TV audience, it was
the epitome of a cup tie and local derby played with energy and
passion with robust challenges which I though Pawson managed
well overall. Good to see Pawson do well.

I consider myself to be fair - I criticise referees when I feel
they deserve and in equal measure I praise them , I have been
critical of Pawson for performances as both ref and VAR over
the last few months and today he was superb , he contributed to
the spectacle and he was determined to keep all the players on
the pitch , as mentioned by a previous poster he looked relaxed
is this due to no VAR ?

Good performance from Pawson.
Only fault if you were to nitpick was there should have been
more yellow cards issued after the fracas, Hulme was very lucky
not to get a second yellow and Isak and Ballard were lucky not
to receive yellow cards.

I thought Craig Pawson had a very good game. His understated and
calm style of officiating worked very well in this match which
had such passionate and full blooded support by the crowd. I
don't underestimate the challenge of refereeing in such a
febrile atmosphere.
I take the points about the wearing of first choice kits but it
certainly detracted as a spectacle for me. I had thought
Sunderland would really give Newcastle a run for their money but
either there is a real gulf between them or else somehow
Sunderland didn't quite get their act together for some reason.
Entertaining enough football without ever coming close to being
a classic in my view.

I was at the game and I agree. A couple of fouls given/not given
that I disagreed with but that happens every game. He remained
calm and didn’t make it about him. Just a shame Sunderland were
masters of their own downfall with some very careless errors.
One gripe I do have from today was with Andy Madley. Several
times (and I’m talking double figures at least) he asked Jason
Tindall to move out of the technical area as two were standing
and yet he continuously ignored him. Madley should’ve asked
Pawson to issue a caution after the 2nd or 3rd occasion but
instead allowed it to persist.

I did state on here that I wasn't chuffed when Craig Pawson was
announced as the referee for this match as I've never really
rated him. However fair play to him he had a decent game and I
have no complaints.
With regard to the colour clash it was difficult at times
because it just seemed like a mass of white stripes especially
on set pieces

Craig Pawson is a better referee without VAR. When he has it he
becomes afraid to make big decisions, and often ends up relying
on it

Very good performance from the 3rd team today. Let the game flow
when they could, and as has been mentioned before, he looked a
lot more relaxed today. Werner that was due to no big brother in
his ear who knows.
Watched it with 2 neutrals, both enjoyed the game and I think
Craig and his team contributed to that.
