Sunderland vs Newcastle - Craig Pawson

No doubt there will be talking points?
To start the ball rolling (literally) isn't it a bit of a
colour/strip clash with the striped shirts?

Absolutely ludicrous clash of shirts for a TV audience. From
distance black and red stripes look identical to me. Only colour
of shorts differentiate the players. A real own goal by TV
production company, FA or both.

Plus Newcastle GK and referee in almost identical colour shirts

I really like the way Craig has approached this so far. He looks
full of energy and enthusiasm, something he's been accused of
lacking previously. He clearly understands the magnitude of the
game and is trying his best to let it flow.

So far that is text book how you referee a derby game. He's
trying to let it flow and it is working. There's an argument to
say Clarke could have been cautioned for leaving his foot
dangling for Botman to kick into, but I think the right decision
to let it go. For the one caution he had for Hume he really was
left with no choice at all.
Agree on the kit clash, probably doesn't look too bad at the
ground but on TV it looks terrible, far too much white on
display.

Excellent first half.
I also feel no VAR makes the officials more relaxed. No big
brother watching.

I agree to an extent but, if I was a fan inside the stadium, I
would want my team to be in their own colour’s wherever possible

Agree - I only ever remember the game being played with both in
their home strips.

The shorts and socks are pretty distinct but understand the
comments on the too much white. Newcastle having red numbers and
Sunderland having black numbers isn't too helpful either. Huge
derby match that doesn't get played too often these days so can
fully understand both teams wanting their traditional #1 kit.
I have my sunglasses ready for our game! [emoji17]

One of the easiest penalty shouts he will ever get.
Enjoying the game as a neutral.
