I think VAR has to get involved here regardless of whether we
like it or not as there was actually something there to get
involved in. There seems to be 2 parts to this. The first, as
quoted, studs are showing, is high and there is contact. The
second the outcome which was nowhere as bad as it could have
been. But isn’t an inevitability of having VAR that it will pick
up much more that people want it to and that wouldn’t have been
picked up before. Just like someone being offside by half an
inch, hard for everyone to get used to but can’t be ignored. I
know that’s factual but so is part one of this tackle as
mentioned above, which I suspect is what led to the decision.
Please don’t anyone mention another example this season where
something didn’t happen or that did happen as that cannot be
taken into consideration by the VAR tonight. Start a new
consistency topic for that. I think it’s time people start to
accept what VAR does, not what we/you/I think it should.
In addition the clear majority here is against VAR intervention
and a red card. May I suggest that if it hadn’t there would be
an argument here over why it didn’t???

       This comment is disgraceful.

I think Ashington is referring to the game being broken, rather
than any insinuation about match officials.

DCL is running into the challenge so there is force there, he
lunges in, studs showing, with a straight(ish) leg, and goes
entirely over the top of the ball. I think the only reason the
Palace player didn't get stretchered off with tib & fib snapped
in two is because he can see it coming and avoids the worst of
       the contact.

Not a red for me. Yes the point of contact is high with studs
showing however he only brushes the defender and there's minimal
contact and so for me does not tick the boxes for a dangerous
challenge and he isn't out of control either. If the contact had
been more substantial then I would have accepted a red card.

So it’s pot luck for you then? Dive in however you want and see
what happens?? Heads I get the ball tails I snap his leg.
That’s how it will be if these challenges are only sanctioned
depending on how bad they turn out to be. Outlaw these type of
challenges regardless and we won’t be spinning the coin.

Too true Claretman. I do not criticise officials, I didn't when
I played at semi-pro level and I certainly don't now.
I played over 500 games at semi-pro level and also officiated at
a similar level when I stopped playing and I am at a total loss
as to where the game is now going.
IN three years IFAB madee over 178 changes to the Laws of the
Game and their interpretation, mainly to accommodate the
introduction of VAR, which only applies to the elite level of
football. This was upp to 3 years ago, I have not even bothered
about what changes have been made since because it is not doing
anything to improve the game or the fans' enjoyment of it.
If my comment is disgraceful, then it is my opinion and I shall
not withdraw it. The game is being ruined by gimmicks.
The people I feel very sorry for are the officials who are
crucified every week for trying to do a job which they carried
out very well until they reached SG1 level.

Nothing wrong with posting an opinion, but you know very well,
we don’t tolerate accusations of corruption on here, this site
would’ve been closed years ago if we didn’t moderate that sort
of thing. You either respect the rules of the site or you find a
regular fan forum to post on. Its very simple.

No that's not what I'm saying. If he had flown in to the
challenge and was out of control even if he had won the ball
then I would have been fine with a red being produced. I just
don't see the one tonight as a dangerous challenge or a red
card. If you believe it should be a red then that's up to you.

Referee in good view sees the issue and says no foul.
VAR says Obvious error and RC.
I pose this question... If the referee sees the incident and
says no FOUL how can we go to a red card and keep the authority
and confidence of the referee on the field. If it was a RC in my
humble opinion then the VAR needs to stay out and let the
       referee carry the can.
I see a difference between going from Yellow to Red and Red to
Yellow but from nothing to RC the referee on the field needs to
       be 100% accountable..... Please discuss.

       > Did a Hull player not get a red card overturned from a similar
challenge made on Monday yes I know there is no VAR in
championship and I guess Everton can’t get DCL’s overturned as
it was given by VAR but aren’t they the same
       >
       --- End Quote ---
The Hull one was rescinded. The Calvert Lewin one most likely
will be as well, they can overturn them if given by VAR. The
Soucek one given by Mike Dean after OFR was rightly rescinded
       after.
       [/quote]
That’s what I was getting at a knew the Hull one was rescinded,
but wasn’t sure here as obviously VAR overturned it so wasn’t
sure if it could be rescinded
