I think it's safe to say that Sam Barrott and Josh Smith are sg1
even if they are listed as sg2. There are a few of the national
list who are now sg2 even if they are listed as national group
given the amount of championship games they are getting.

I think it is also fair to say that Darren Handley and Rob Lewis
are no longer on the referees list, as discussed elsewhere on
RTR. I thought that James Oldham was still on the list but out
injured, but I'll stand corrected on this one.

Indeed, Darren Handley was observing at Fylde on Monday.

Darren Handley - Now an observer

What’s the most common reason for a demotion, is it a choice by
the referee, performance/fitness based or another reason? James
Oldham was always a strong performer when we had him so
surprised if it’s on performance but of course we don’t know the
full story.

I have seen James Oldham live twice and he refereed well enough
on both occasions. He doesn't seem to have received too much
opprobrium on this site. If it is a demotion it seems strange.

I have seen James Oldham live twice and he refereed well enough

Agreed, the last time I saw him was at Stevenage in April and he
was having a good laugh with his assistants, interacting with
some kids in the crowd and put in a typically solid display. I
believe he’s also done some mentoring/training work for
Derbyshire FA.
I seem to remember someone saying he hadn’t taken a fitness test
due to injury back in the Autumn, not sure if related to that in
any way at all. Strange, but I guess they have their reasons,
either James or his superiors.
