Poor performance from Taylor. Neither penalties are correct in
my opinion.

I thought Longstaff was offside which is why the clear foul by
Endo wasn’t given but he was clearly on, so it is astonishing
that wasn’t given yet the Jota one was.

Think todays performance sums Taylor up this season in the
premier league, you dont know whether he is going to give a
penalty or not for similar offences from game to game.
You can argue either way for each of the penalties, the second
one Attwell on var was never going to overturn as he gave a
similar penalty kick last saturday. To me the second penalty
given was simlar to the one he gave against wolves earlier in
the season, which was believed to be incorrect?
Seems nowadays you can get a penalty kick for the slightest of
touches on a player, falling belatedly but not get one if a
player has his shirt pulled off his back or you take the lace
out of the ball.
If the forward in the second penalty award had stayed on his
feet would it have been given?
Good spectacle, some good advantages, some brilliant real time
offisde calls correct by each AR. Should have booked JoeLinton
for the cynical foul (unsporting behaviour) which failed to stop
a promising attack as the referee played advantage. I doubt
JoeLinton would have then committed the foul he did to get
cautioned if he had already been cautioned previously.

ANother game which convinces me even more that I shoud not waste
money going to watch players whose sole intent is to 'con' the
officials. The amount of players falling over, holding their
heads and rolling over and over in their attempts to influence
officials is now getting beyond a joke.
Players win the ball fair and square but are penalised because
they are too aggressive or whatever reason is now given. May I
ask if this is still a contact sport because in my 500+ games as
a semi-pro when I was in the RAF a lot of these players would
have been laughed at. Similarly, when I refereed after I
retired, some of the ludicrous behaviour of players would have
been dealt with amicably but with a stern warning as to their
future conduct.
THank goodness that I can spend my money in watching Ashington
play in the Pitching Northern Premier League East where the
players get on with the game and the officials do their best.
They make mistakes but players, management, fans etc. accept
that and get on with the game which is so much more enjoyable
without all the histrionics of the 'elite' game!

Some of the advantages he played though were sublime.
Nunn and Beswick had cracking games. They didn’t get a thing
wrong.

Tbf- I actually agree with TTFL. Tonight was one of Taylor’s
stronger performances. Only errors for me were not booking
joelinton in 1st half and the 2nd penalty which was a poor
decision. But Taylor has previous this season for soft/ wrong
penalty decisions.
Liverpool were worthy winners on the night regardless of the
penalty decision

Having seen both penalties I don't think either of them are
penalties especially the 2nd one where I genuinely cannot see
any contact and am surprised that VAR did not recommend a OFR
where as with the 1st one there is contact but not enough for me
to say that it should have been a penalty.

Liverpool absolutely should have won.
But there needs to be an explanation as to how Endo’s clear foul
on Longstaff was not given as a penalty (Liverpool went straight
up the other end and scored to make it 2-1).
There was more contact there than on either of the penalties
that were given.
As for Jota, it is embarrassing for all involved. It is never a
penalty in a million years.

With regard to the Endo challenge on Longstaff perhaps there was
too much contact

VAR was Stuart Attwell who proved on Saturday at Villa that
there is only a need for a very minimal conact to award a
penalty, therefore, he would not get involved. Sad isn't it?
