Agreed! Having seen a clip from Bond’s angle was always going to
be a red card even with minimal contact. Glad to see he gave
himself thinking time but ultimately correct decision for me.

I can definitely see why Darren Bond gave a red card for this as
the Hull player tackles with both feet off the ground and so I
don't think it's as bad as people are saying but I do think that
it is more of a yellow than a red due to the fact he won the
ball.

For me - clear red card, excessive force, at speed, both feet of
the ground. Winning the ball is not relevant that was removed
from the laws many years ago.

This is what he has seen. Irrelevant that he touches the ball
first, he goes over the top of it and IMO it's clear serious
foul play - endangering the safety of the opponent.

You're right, the player making a tackle like that has got to be
one of the worst decisions anyone has made this season. It truly
is a shocker.

The modern game which leaves those of us who have played at a
decent level and then officiated at a similar level deciding
that I should change my allegiance to cricket and Rugby League.
WHy do we not just play football without a ball ----it is no
longer an important part of the game ---except for possession
statistics.
A simple game made complicated by those RUINING the game.

People defending the indefensible here. His step father rang me
to say that Darren is sick that he made the wrong call. Sadly it
was a shocking decision but he will get over it. Anyone thinking
that this is a red card needs to do a course on the laws of the
game.

If that tackle is made 1 footed, with the same ferocity then
fair enough. But it's not! The 2nd foot is high, dangerous and
with intent to hurt. For me, a definite red.

IrishRef1985 - I don’t want you to think I am getting at you but
you have posted twice on this thread now and well…….
Firstly once I’ve got past the part where the referees step
father has apparently called you up to say his step son said he
got it wrong so that you could then publish that….with regard to
your point about the Laws of the Game I would suggest that they
have very little to do with peoples opinions on this tackle.
Whether people think it’s a yellow or a red card is surely an
interpretation issue. Me and you could have an inside out
knowledge of the Laws, could be sat next to each other watching
this and come up with a different outcome. The laws I believe
uses the term excessive or maybe disproportionate force but it
can’t dictate what that actually is can it. It is wherever you
or I determine it to be. If people were suggesting that the
referee should have awarded a corner as a result of the tackle
then maybe your point would be correct, maybe some brushing up
would be required but if you disagree with someone’s opinion
here I would suggest it is their opinion you disagree with not
their knowledge of the laws.

Having viewed several replays from many different angles, I
think yellow would have been correct. However, the replay which
showed the angle Bond had is telling, from this angle it looks
like a clear case of SFP, both feet off the ground at speed.
It’s the point of impact, which Bond can’t possibly see from his
angle, that for me would downgrade this from a red to a yellow,
the fact Morton doesn’t actually make contact with his feet,
rather his ankle/knee.
