In the Italian list of FIFA referees Marco Colombo (Como) has
replaced Michael Fabbri, who continues, however, to serve as a
FIFA VMO. Colombo's rise has been pretty rapid: he was promoted
to the combined Serie A/B list only in 2021.
Italy now has ten officials in its list of FIFA VMOs. They are
a remarkably mixed bunch: two (Di Bello and Maresca) also serve
as FIFA referees, and they are joined by two ex-FIFA referees
who are still active as on-field referees in domestic football
(Doveri and Fabbri), three ex-FIFA referees now retired from
domestic football (Irrati, Mazzoleni and Valeri), one active
referee who has never been a FIFA referee (Aureliano) and two
ex-referees who never made the FIFA list (Di Paolo and Marini;
the former never made the Serie A list).

The list isn't the easiest thing to navigate. Constantine
Hatzidakis has been replaced by James Mainwaring and Michael
Salisbury is now a specialist VAR alongside Messrs Bankes and
Coote. Paul Tierney has come off the list.

I’m sure he came off the same time as Coote, with both taking on
VAR only roles.

I’m sure he came off the same time as Coote, with both taking on
VAR only roles.

Sailsbury joined the list in 2023 as specialist var acc to fifa
listings.
Tierney came off the list at the same time as Bankes and Coote
at beginning of 2023, hence a few cynics here thinking they were
rewarded with cup final appointments during the 2022/23 season
