According to his instagram
James Mainwaring has been promoted to a fifa assistant referee
Congrats to him, does this confirm that Hatzadakis has stepped
down

Congratulations to him. I would suspect Hatzidakis is the most
likely to have stepped down if he is pursuing a future in the
middle.
Slightly surprised Howson hasn’t been given a badge, unless
there has been another change to the list.

Emily Heaslip has got a new white badge for 2024 too.
Also Benjamin McMaster (NIR) and Matthew MacDermid (SCO) have
been promoted.
Two from Hungary in the list.. Bence Csonka and Mihály Káprály.

Both of whom I have predicted would do so several times over the
past few years. Delighted for both of them.
Karako finally removed from the list, should never have been on
it in the first place. Shame for Farkas Ádám, he's always been a
steady and safe pair of hands but at 42 he's never going to
progress further. I'm sure he will have stood down to allow
progress, like Vad stepping down from Category 1 last season so
Berke Balázs could be promoted. Tóth I Vencel is showing to be a
good Head of Refereeing, looking forwards and preparing for the
future. The changes Puhl Sándor (RIP Sanyi) should have made 5+
years ago are finally being made and it's so good to see. Next
year I expect will be Bogár Gergő swapping places with
Bognár Tamás and promoted to Category 1 - he will be our first
elite referee since Kassai Viktor retired 4 years ago. Tóth I
Vencel has been promoting younger referees into the NBI as well.
Exciting times!

Congratulations to him and I wish him nothing but success.
I can't help but feel very sad for Dan Robathan though, he
deserves his white badge and I don't know what else he can do to
be put forward. Consistently excellent for the past 2/3 seasons.
Maybe next year for him, I really hope so.

Congratulations to Matthew MacDermid. I'm delighted for him.
He's come a long way since that evening at Crichton, when he was
a Category 3D!

Are they in line to take the throne of Kassai in future years?

[/quote]
I think Bogár Gergő will be our next elite, of the 3 he is
the most developed. He's the one I have often described as the
Hungarian Michael Oliver. Referees with a maturity well beyond
his years. He's only 32 and joined the list when Kassai Viktor
retired so at just 28. He was in the talent group last year &
keeps progressing well, he's put in some fantastic performances
in UEFA tournaments and is highly thought of there.
The main problem we had was Puhl Sándor didn't prepare for the
future so when Kassai Viktor suddenly, without warning, retired
early there were no young referees already being primed. We only
have 1 elite spot and 2 category 1 spots - they were taken by
Vad II István and Bognár Tamás. Both too old for promotion to
elite. Vad II should have been demoted to Category 2
immediately, he was injury prone and spent about 75% of the time
injured, and Berke promoted but Vad II was Puhl's blue eyed boy.
That finally happened this time last year, Vad II stepped down
to Category 2 himself to make way for some progression and was
added as a FIFA VAR as well. Berke was promoted to Cat 1. He'll
be 40 next month so I suspect it's too late now for him to be
promoted to elite - he would have been had the changes taken
place when Kassai Viktor retired, as they should have.
Csonka Bence is 31, 32 in March. Steady young referee but can be
a bit timid at times. Not sure he will go above Cat 1 but he
will be excellent at that level given the chance. Káprály Mihály
was 32 in November. I'd have said a couple of years ago that he
was behind Csonka Bence in terms of development, he was promoted
to the NBI later and had less experience but I think of the 2 he
is now the stronger, more developed referee. Safe pair of hands
in the NBI and I really hope they both go on to shine
internationally - they have the talent.
Bognár Tamás is now 45, I suspect this will be his last season
as a FIFA referee. He has been our top referee since Kassai
Viktor retired, with Bogár Gergő 2nd. I think this time
next year Bognár Tamás will step down from Cat 1 and become our
#2 VAR referee with Vad II István and Bogár Gergő will be
the one promoted to Cat 1 as his replacement and 2-3 years later
will be promoted to elite with Csonka Bence and Káprály Mihály
moving up to be 2 very capable Cat 1 referees. Unless Berke gets
a late age promotion to elite I think he will step down and be
VAR when Bogár Gergő is promoted to elite and therefore
allow both Csonka Bence and Káprály Mihály to be promoted to Cat
1.
My biggest wish in terms of our refereeing is Kassai Viktor and
Ring György are appointed head of refereeing in Hungary in the
not too distant future. Tóth I Vencel is coming up 71 and whilst
I believe he is doing a great job right now, he is closer to
retirement than being someone who can develop the next
generation. Viktor is 48 so has many years ahead of himself yet.
He's gained valuable experience in Russia, Bulgaria and now
Austria but it's time for him to come home and develop the next
generation of our referees.

Deserved, hopefully in place of Hatzidakis. Shame that Robathan
is unlikely now to get one, feel he should have been before
Mainwaring. Hopefully Lennard comes off for Robathan
