Adam Herczeg Peterborough v Barnsley

Hi, I am new to the forum as a poster but have been a long term
admirer reading your views etc. I have previously refereed so
that’s where my interest has come from. I like to think when I
watch a game I can take on board the way the refs thinking
instead of following the crowd and lambasting them every five
minutes…
But today Adam Herczeg and his team put in the most abject
performance London Road has seen for a while. He didn’t look
like he wanted to be there didn’t keep up with play. Had no
control of the game and failed to caution players when he needed
to.
He also missed a clear penalty in the second half and a foul on
the keeper in the first which lead to a goal.
Hopefully a one off for Adam but I hope I don’t see him in the
middle at LR again.
Here’s a link to the penalty appeal.
Just for the benefit of the post, we have had some good
officials this year. Lewis Smith, Sunny Gill to name a few.

I was at the match tonight. I felt it wasn’t the best
performance it certainly wasn’t as bad as you make out!
His fitness was first class, and he was always up with play in
what was a very stretched match.
No way was there a foul on the Peterborough GK for the first
goal. He played a bad pass and tried to get out of it by staying
down. Peterborough played themselves into danger far too many
times and neither of the goals were by fault of Mr Herczeg.
There was only 1 YC challenge in the match which he cautioned
for, and also played some good advantages.
The AR’s seemed to follow his lead quite a bit, eps AR2.
Lastly on the penalty shout. I was in the main stand so couldn’t
really see, but it looked a decent shout. Although Mr Herczeg
was prob 5-10 yards away.

It looks a foul to me on the keeper for the first goal.
There was a number of cynical fouls where he didn’t even speak
to the player afterwards that was for both teams.

Poor first post in my opinion - maybe try to be more balanced
next time.

Welcome to the RTR site JG94. Perhaps not the best game for your
first report on RTR, but you are entitled to post your opinions
about the performance of Mr Herczeg and have tried to back these
up with supporting evidence, and I respect your post and
comments accordingly.

I thought it a very reasonably expressed first post. JG94 may be
right or wrong that Adam Herczeg had a " most abject performance
" but he gives his reasons why it's his opinion and puts them
over in a courteous enough way. I am pleased to note his
approbation of other referees he has seen and without wishing to
plunge into bathos, I am extremely impressed that JG94 spelled a
very unusual name correctly. Welcome to RatetheRef !

I thought Mr Herczeg was poor yesterday as well as AR1 who
seemed to be more interested in engaging with the crowd rather
than keeping up with play.
However, he was not the worse official seen at London Road, but
he did get a number of key decisions wrong in my opinion.
The challenge on the Posh keeper was a foul eventhough it was
the follow through the challenge was high and led to the keeper
going off injured.
The penalty incident mentioned came after a long period of
pulling back which could have led to a free kick at the edge of
the area which might have been a 'political dicision' but would
have appeased crowd and players alike.
But as mentioned i thought Mr Herczeg was fit, well positioned
and looked to communicate well, it was just some of the decision
making in mine, and for what it is worth the BBC website,
opinion wasn't brilliant.
As for other posters comments that this is a poor first post,
well shame on you, if a well reasoned but negative argument
upsets you i would love to know what you think this message
boards purpose is!

Well we were out in our droves at this game. I was there too.
My first live sighting of Mr Adam Herczeg and overall I thought
he was fine. However like other posters I felt there were two
key decisions which were wrong. For me it was a clear foul on
the goalkeeper for the first Barnsley goal; a late, reckless
challenge. The penalty, as stated above, followed a foul
outside the box (for which I think advantage was played). This
should have made it quite an easy penalty to give especially
given his position. I was surprised that it wasn't. Cracking
game though.
