Sam Barrott- Ipswich v Leicester

Mainly a good game by Sam. Frustratingly (as a Leicester fan)
missed a blatant kmi penalty in the second half but from the
angle it looks like his view was blocked so can’t be too
critical.

Disappointing from Barrott who seems destined (and rightly so)
for SG1, he’s been fantastic every time I’ve seen him this
season so he was due an off day.
Missed a clear penalty for Leicester and a red card for DOGSO
probably should have accompanied it. Could argue he should have
given Harness a SYC too for a reckless foul a few minutes after
his first yellow, one you’d think would have been a booking had
he not already had one.
Also felt he got in the way a couple of times too, positioning
felt unusually mediocre.
Hopefully just a blip and he’s back to his best again soon.

Can understand him missing the potential penalty, I think it was
one but you could argue it was shoulder to shoulder and the ball
was in proximity, but you'd be stretching. But the other
Ipswich defender blocked his view and you can't give what you
can't see - that was unlucky.
However, even as someone who always leans to Ipswich in English
football, he bottled the second yellow for Harness. No excuse,
was a clear yellow. And immediately after he gave another foul
against him for a dragback - it was barely a foul but if he
interpreted it as a drag with no attempt to play the ball after
giving him the benefit seconds before, that was the chance to
correct the wrong and nobody would have argued much if he gave
it for the accumulation.
Those incidents were a pity, i was just chatting with a friend
online at half time and was saying how much better he'd been
than the top flight refs from England and Scotland I'd seen
today but dipped a bit in the 2nd half.

Not a blip I'm afraid he was at Hillsborough on Saturday and I
was looking forward to seeing him live. Very disappointed tbh.
It was as if the comments about the Newcastle game had affected
him and he was determined to be seen as not being swayed by a
large home crowd.
Got in the way twice due to poor positioning and on both
occasions stopped a very promising Wednesday attack where
Cardiff were short of defenders. Once I can excuse but twice at
this level isn't good.
Booked Wednesdays players and let Cardiff off for the same
offences. One Wednesday player clearly won the ball as it was
bang in front of where I was sitting and the Cardiff player knew
he was in trouble as the Wednesday player was away from him and
went down as if shot. No contact and some how Sam gave a free
kick and a yellow card. Clear simulation from the Cardiff player
and a very very poor decision.
The worst decision was his failure to give a penalty for a
blatant shirt pull on Ashley Fletcher in the penalty area, which
was a KMI as could have been 2-2. Everyone in the North Stand
saw it and most in the ground saw it but not the person that
mattered. On the performance at Hillsborough he's not ready for
the PL but then a lot of comments on here have praised him.
Our failure to take our chances cost us the game as we should
have been out of sight before Cardiff scored and poor
goalkeeping cost us a goal, but IMO not a great day for Sam

Unfortunately sam has a premier league fixture next, followed by
a live FA cup game, so not much room for respite for him. I
welcome bringing through new refs, and I’m glad webb is more
proactive than his predecessor in that regard, however I think
barrot may have been pushed too hard and maybe needs some more
low key fixtures for a while, so he can regain his form and
confidence. He clearly has talent as a referee, and I’d hope
that pgmol manage it properly.

I shall be at Spurs v Burnley in the F A Cup 3rd Round ( and I
believe it is on live TV ) so I shall give an unvarnished
account of Sam Barrott's performance.

Whilst I am a Foxes fan I think most people that saw the
Leicester penalty appeal (previously referred to) would say that
if it happened outside the penalty area it was a foul, so as it
happened in the penalty area it was a penalty…………. If the
referee or assistant saw it. I thought the failure to issue a
second yellow and hence red to the Ipswich player was at best a
(very) generous and charitable interpretation of the Laws of the
Game.

I agree, I thought he enhanced a good match. Yes, the "penalty"
might have been given (haven't seen it on TV yet), but Ipswich
have been denied several equally likely spot kicks this season.
From my seat in the stand all three officials had a decent game
and however lucky the equaliser, it was thoroughly deserved.

Often officials don't know for sure and go on the balance of
probability which is fine on the centre spot. I want my
officials to be pretty sure if they are awarding a penalty, a
goal or a red card. It's not the same.
