Chris Kavanagh: Newcastle v Nottingham Forest (VAR: Jarred
Gillett)

Interesting penalty given here, awarded by AR1 Simon Bennett.
Very very soft, with the Newcastle player absolutely throwing
himself to the ground. Safe to say if it hadn't been given on
field VAR wouldn't have overturned it. However it wasn't a clear
and obvious error, so right not to get involved.
Cards are out early as well. All warranted. Good showing so far.

It is a clear error for me.
Isak is barely touched. He then plants the foot back down and
throws himself the the ground in a hugely exaggerated manner.
It's a dive and should have resulted in a yellow card for Isak.

Don’t think it’s a penalty (minimal contact) but once it’s given
it was never going to meet the threshold to be overturned.
Other than that, a decent start from Kav, all cautions correct.
He looks to be refereeing with confidence again which is great
to see!

Excellent advantage for the second Forest goal - this is
probably the best run of games I've seen from Kavanagh for quite
a while.

Another very good performance by Kavanagh and his team, its
amazing once the vile shirt is discarded how confidence oozes.
All potential flashpoints defused by quick swift communication
and action.
Fab positioning by Kavanagh and decisive decision making for a
couple of penalty calls in the second half.
Soft penalty in first half, once given it was never going to be
overturned by var. There was contact from behind by the Forest
defender even though minimal.
Great advantage played by Kavanagh for Forest second goal, and
very good tight call onside by AR1 Bennett for the Forest third
goal.
Dont think Forest will be writing to the FA asking for Kavanagh
to be relieved of refereeing duties in future Forest games.
If this form continues Kavanagh should be on a cup final,
probably the energy drink one and if not he should def get a
semi final.

I don’t understand what other people are watching?! It’s a clear
penalty, Isak is kicked on the calf of his standing leg. The
‘crusade against diving’ really leads some people astray…
I thought Kavanagh also got all of the 2H penalty area incidents
correct too (though it would have been nice to see a replay of
the ‘lunging tackle/block’ incident though), and it was
outstanding how hard he worked to get into an optimal position
to assess ’episodes’ inside the penalty area.
It would have been better imo if he’d clamped down quicker on
frustrated Newcastle fouls towards the end of the game, but
that’s a fairly minor point in the bigger picture.
Agree that a cup final assignment would be deserved for him
atow!

I remember for a long while that I was the lone voice believing
in him. So many people wrote him off. Have always believed in
him and knew he would get his chance to shine. Absolutely loving
seeing this run he’s on right now and long may it continue. He,
Si Bennett and Dan Robathan are showing to be a great team, they
compliment each other well. Really proud of Kav, he’s used
everyone’s doubts as motivation to show what he’s really capable
of. Love it.

I say this in the nicest possible way , the injury that put
Kavanagh out of action for a while was a blessing in disguise as
he wasn’t at his best prior to it and I wouldn’t have put him in
the top 5 though the season before he was doing great , and
since his return his performances have been great his
appointments reflect that and he’s probably putting in the
performances of his career so far and I’m pleased for him and
his team
I disagree with the Newcastle penalty as imo there wasn’t enough
contact to send him to the ground which what I thought referees
took into account
