David Coote - Wolves v Chelsea

An average display IMO.
Let a lot go in the first half, then really clamped down in the
second. Inconsistent with bookings for kicking the ball away and
Lemina could have been sent off for two yellows in the first
half. Gallagher should have been sent off in the second also for
a second caution.
Very odd decision to penalise Sterling when he won the ball from
a Wolves defender who then clearly fouled him.
Also a very harsh booking for the same player when barged into
the box (though not a penalty it certainly wasn’t simulation).

Another totally underwhelming performance from one of the most
overrated PL refs in its 30 year history. I continue to wonder
if having friends in high places may have had some bearing on
his elevation

Thought Mr Coote was excellent, as he often is when I see a full
match of him refereeing. Tried to let the game flow, brought
play back when there was none, and every single booking was
warranted. All penalty appeals rightly turned down.
Lemina and Gallagher on another day might have gotten second
yellows, but just about right to give the fouls on both
occasions.
Sterling fouled in first half just outside the box, great
teamwork from the guys to give the free kick as it clearly
looked inside the box at first viewing. Sterling dive at the
end was embarrassing as is often the way with him sadly.
Coote is a far better on field official than VAR, he has proven
it again here for me.

No foul was given against Lemina for the tackle he flew into in
the first half when on a booking.
The Sterling / Toti decision was ridiculous. Sterling did not
foul Toti, who then clearly fouled Sterling twice, once inside
the box. Coote gives decision to Toti and VAR does the usual of
backing up their mate.
Gallagher’s was as clear a second yellow as you could ever see.
Sliding in from behind, clips the player.

Everyone is entitled to express their view on this site, even if
in a minority, and be received at proper face value. I am not
sure there is a Mrs Coote but if there were then her opinions
would I am sure be unvarnished by any marital bias and would be
welcome here.

I have a totally different view. From what I saw which was
on/off for 90 mins, he wasn’t very good. He looked a bit
disinterested like he did in Brentford vs Villa last week.
Main point I disagree in is that he tried to let the game flow.
He certainly didn’t from what I saw his foul detection was
hopeless as always, the sterling non freekick/penalty is awful.
Freekick/ Penalty or play on are all correct but not a freekick
to Wolves the defender just fell over.
It’s not hard for him to be better onfield than VAR, like most
referees they didn’t have a clue when put behind the screen

I just thought he got nigh on everything right, I like to call a
game when I’m watching it and barring one or two decisions I was
with him.
Rather than disinterested I would say he is calm and refrained
from creating drama or an arrogant persona. Rob Jones on the
other hand, something about him gets my goat, coupled with
horrific decision making week in week out.

I like the bit about Mr Coote but not about Rob Jones, hence my
'disagree'. I sometimes think David looks a bit sad, but that is
undoubtedly a facial expression rather than an attitude towards
the game.
