30 hours later I still don’t get how it wasn’t a penalty.
Clearly moved his hand to the ball. Then again when you see it’s
David Coote on VAR he might as well have caught it. As usual
rather than making the right decision just like in Friday at
Villa park, VAR officials finding every way to say it’s not a
clear error and back up the on-field referee.
Other than that thought Chris Kavanagh was excellent and he even
showed some common sense to not send Saka off. wow! Referees
have this? A certain colleague earlier in the day could have
done with some.
Kavanagh should really get a cup final this year but don’t be
surprised when it’s Bankes and Coote on EFL and FA.

Only saw the highlights but on a personal note im happy he
bounced back from time away and has had some great appointments
with minimum controversy. Used to like him with his old team of
dan cook and sian. This new team look just as good together.
Like to see dan r get a white badge this year with james m

the both deserve the badges but do other assistants have to step
down to do so?if so I can Constantine hatzidakis being the first
one as he dosent seem to get any international appointments.

Both James Mainwaring and Dan Robathan deserve the badge, with
the former having done a uel group stage game this season
Constantine Hatzadakis will most likely step down and I think
Harry Lennard should as well as he doesn’t really get
appointments and doesn’t seem to get many good ones in the
league either

According to Dermot Gallagher, the VAR (Coote) deemed that the
Arsenal player slipped and as a consequence he made his body
smaller. Even Gallagher deemed this wasn’t sufficient reasoning
and it should have been a penalty.
Is there anything in the LOTG that state a slip negates an
offence? At no point did Odergaard use his arm to support his
body.

Howard Webb supports Gallagher's view that this should have been
a penalty. To quote in today's Times, "If somebody falls, breaks
their fall with the arm, it is all pretty natural and that is a
well-established concept. This is not just Odegaard accidentally
falling on to the ball. He does slip, his arm does go out, but
he then pulls his arm back in towards his body which is when the
ball makes contact with the arm. Whether it is instinctive or
deliberate, he gets a huge advantage by bringing the arm back
towards the ball. All the feedback we got was the game expects a
penalty in this situation".
I have to say I don't understand the last sentence. 'All the
feedback we got', but what about his view and feedback to the
officials? That's surely what's important here. A misquote
perhaps? I have to say my sympathies are with Kavanagh and Coote
with this scenario.

I'm pretty sure Webb said something at the end like 'I would
expect a penalty too' or 'I agree with them' - I think he made
it clear he felt a penalty should have been awarded but that bit
hasn't been included in the Times article seemingly.

Webb always seems to back what the feedback what he gets from
what the game expects, but he never says who these people are
that are giving feedback.
Surely a standard should be set at the begining of the season
and should remain that until the end of season, not keep
changing guidance during a season to suit what the so called
game expects

Another example of the knots that referees are tying themselves
into trying to interpret the maze of nonsense that is the
handball law these days.
