You're listening too much to the commentators, there's no
concept of different phase of play for VAR. They can go back to
anything in the APP (attacking phase of play), given Sheffield
United barely got the ball out of their penalty area that
       certainly wasn't over.

It's ridiculous. It's re refereeing the game. What happened
there had 0 effect on how the goal was scored

I think you are describing two different things.
If it's a foul then the only question is whether or not it's
part of the APP - that's nothing to do with re-refereeing the
game, it's simply determining if the criteria for resetting the
       APP was met or not.

The keeper would have had a much better chance of getting the
cross without being held. It is a clear foul and in this case a
       clear and obvious error.

Good performance by Taylor on the field.
Okay night for Brooks in VAR. He had a lot to look at and
generally made the right calls however there was one very poor
decision with the horrible Duran elbow on Robinson. That should
have been an easy red card for violent conduct but didn’t even
get an on field review. The only blight on a good display all
       round unfortunately.

At the ground this evening i called the foul on the sheff utd
goalkeeper before the ball left the penalty area, i said when
the ball entered the goal this will be disallowed. The only
thing i wondered about was had the app ended, which after
watching a replay, even though sheff utd got possession of the
ball but quickly lost it again i would find it difficult to say
the app had ended. If Taylor missed the goalkeepers arm being
held by the villa player then good spot by var.
Whether there was a foul committed on a villa player in the
penalty area before the goalkeeper was pulled back of that i am
       not sure.
What confuses people may be when the attacking phase ends with
regards to a player being in an offside position as against a
foul being committed, and that prob confused my thinking too at
       the time
I think the first half appeal for a penalty against Watkins was
a penalty as he had his shirt pulled as well as being fouled and
the handball in the second half against the sheff utd player
would def have been given in europe.
Thought overall Taylor let a lot go in the game, more so in the
first half and i have seen him give softer penalty kicks in
other games hence a lack of consistency from game to game.
Credit to sheff utd for a solid backs to the wall defensive
performance which very nearly paid dividends for them.

It was a relief to see the Villa “goal” disallowed and it should
happen more often. It was a clear and deliberate foul on the
keeper. Without that foul the keeper catches the ball.
No idea how the Villa player was not sent off for the elbow just
       before the first goal.

The disallowed goal reminded me of the disallowed goal last
season for Arsenal at Leicester, where Ben White had hold of the
goalkeeper’s hand. It was widely accepted at the time that it
was a correct intervention and therefore I was not surprised to
       see this similarly penalised.
Very comfortable that it was the same phase of play/APP as the
ball remained around the penalty area without any chance for an
       obvious reset.
Overall I thought Taylor had a good, solid game
