The debate can be applied across all the levels in relation to
ERDP. I suspect there will be a sizeable amount of officials
disgruntled by the opportunities that have been afforded to this
group over others who have worked over time up the levels. Lewis
Smith's several elevated appointments this year and last notably
the EFL Cup Last 16 appointment.
For arguments sake this summer Backhouse and Kitchen were
promoted to SG2 so likely the best on the NL. 4 ERDP refs were
realigned to SG2 (Barrott, Welch, Allison and Nield). 3 out of
the 4 now have a PL game do you really think Backhouse or
Kitchen would stand a chance of a PL appointment this season, i
dont.

I think more of an issue with Gillett as the Forest V Spurs game
hasn't happened yet so obviously we don't know if there will be
any controversy etc from it.
There are a lot of games at this time of year with all the PL
rounds and cup matches so I think Brooks doing Man City again is
more understandable. There are probably half a dozen or so refs
who will have refereed Everton/Man City since. There are several
PL refs who don't officiate Everton and a number who you
wouldn't expect to get the game at the moment for various
reasons (e.g. England, Scott, Bramall, Harrington, Bond). You
could have considered Hooper instead for instance but he only
refereed Man City 3 days before Brooks and there was probably a
lot more controversy from that game with the non-advantage and
so on.

When I was 14 (many many moons ago) I went on the French
exchange. There was one pupil who I was convinced was 26 (he
must have been younger) who kept repeating the school year as he
kept failing his exams. It is the only analogy I can draw upon
to explain the position of Graham Scott in SG1.

couple of seasons so it's a mixture of being around the top and
assessment day for invited Officials only.

A process that has now made its way down to L4 promotions.

The development pathway is supposed to be bringing through good
young referees, quicker than normal. Something welch isn’t. She
has been around a long time is the wrong side of 40 so won’t get
on the fifa list for mens football. Just another decision to
satisfy the diversity brigade

You can never right a wrong with another wrong. I suspect a few
time served referees are annoyed that they have been overlooked
by the desire to be more diverse. Discrimination to remove
discrimination is wrong and the assessment and promotion process
must be clear and transparent if we are to maintain quality and
not dilute standards.
