Dodgy Corner Kick Tactic?

Saw this on BBC's website today. An incident in grassroots
football (makes a change from EFL/PL items) which the team has,
evidently, practised before but was the corner kick taken
properly and within both the Laws and the spirit of the game? My
opinion is no but it's over to you RTR colleagues.

The Laws only say the ball has to move, which it did so
technically it is correct in law.

Perfectly legal, ball has been touched and moved, right under
"linos" nose

Thanks, bmb and RCG. You are perfectly correct, of course, that
it's legal. However, I just wonder how you distinguish between
touching the ball as part of the process of placing it ready for
the corner kick to be taken and touching it to actually take the
kick? Where is that line drawn? Secondly, from that distance,
how could the defending team know or be expected to know that
the ball has been touched ever so slightly and the kick deemed
taken, until it was too late?

Its not new. I remember the Uxbridge Manager speaking to me
before an Isthmian League match back in the mid-1990s to alert
me that this was a tactic they might use during the game. He
did so because - in an earlier game - a referee / linesman had
missed the ball being played and ruled out the "sneak" tactic.
My guess is that the publicity it has received today will have
killed it off for any effective future use.

Wayne Rooney did this at Old Trafford against Chelsea back in
2009. The ball went out for a corner and Rooney retrieved it and
dribbled it along to the corner quadrant. HE then touched the
ball as Ryan Giggs was coming across because he was the regular
taker. Rooney told him that he had touched the ball and that
itt was live, Giggs took it to the edge of the area and crossed
for Ronaldo to head it home. The goal was disallowed much to the
annoyance of Alex Ferguson and the United team.

Tough ! If you're going to be sneaky to try and fool the
opposition, there's a good chance the officials will be fooled
too.

Spirit of the game ?????
To quote from the Eagles (no, not Palace), "We haven't had that

It was in my memory because, when I was mentoring young referees
up here, I used to warn them that this was a legitimate tactic
but that, with club linesmen (as they were) it would never be
seen. Just another things for young officials to be wary of.
That was 14 years ago, I certainly would no like to be mentoring
these days ---VAR finished my active contribution to any
football.
