P Howard - Portsmouth v Bolton

Good 45 so far. All cautions correct and letting a physical
battle commence.
Nice to see the new additional time rule has gone out the
window. 3 bookings, few fouls and ball out of play a lot = 1 min
added?
Either keep the rule or scrap it. Simple as.

Time isn't added for ball out of play or fouls. It is for
injuries, goals, substitutions, etc. If it was added for ball
out of play there would be 20+ minutes added per half. It can
be added for disciplinary action, but now that referees just
flash cards that takes 5 to 10 seconds at most.

Something has certainly changed between the start of the season
and now as at the start of the season was getting ten minutes of
added time sometimes when there'd been no significant injuries.
Now we are back to the standard one minute at the end of the
first half and three to five at the end of the second more often
than not.

What has changed is that players are getting on with it now that
they they know there is no point in extended celebrations or
procrastination at substitutions.

Not convinced. I went to a game where the ref warned a keeper on
time wasting but then played a minute of stoppage time at the
end of the first half. Also there was that crazy Spurs v Chelsea
game where around fifteen minutes of stoppage time were
indicated and played. Lots of incidents happened in those
fifteen minutes like injuries / goals etc but the ref didn't add
any extra on when really there should have been another two or
three minutes on top of the fifteen.

Fantastic advantage from Paul Howard after a foul on Yengi by
Santos in the build up to the second which Yengi ended up
scoring. Bar a couple of 50/50s between those two that I think
he got the wrong way round and vice versa, he had a good night
