Would the second caution have been the type of offence which
could potentially result in a sin bin in the future if IFAB's
suggested idea becomes reality? (presumably 2nd yellows would
still follow the same process as now.)

Crystal Palace should count them very lucky that Joel Ward
stayed on the pitch. A clearly reckless challenge which despite
the goal should have been a second yellow

This angle shows Ayew committing the foul. Gomez is free and
Liverpool players outnumber Palace defenders on this side of the
pitch. The foul looks to be a perfect example of stopping a
promising attack.

It would be if it was a dig at him. Granted, I thought his
comments on this particular performance were particularly
hyperbolic and not really warranted but that is his opinion.
My point was, perhaps not made clearly enough, that 2 other
commentators based the refereeing performance on a YC being
issued to Roy Hodgson and, that the verdict of AT“, says it all”
(without any other reasoning) and, to me, that is the barometer
of nothing nor does it contribute to a good debate.
As I said, despite being a member of this site from pretty much
day one, I admit I’m more an observer than a contributor
(perhaps, on this evidence, with good reason 😂) but I’ve
seen plenty get - rightfully - pulled up on comments like “the
ref was rubbish” but IMO the above comments had just as little
meaning.

I was at Anderlecht last night and the referee didn’t give a
single caution for breaking up a promising attack (I’m not sure
what the Liverpool yellow was for on the halfway line opposite
the dugouts) despite four clear fouls by Union that did
precisely that. I’m sure Mr. Ayew would be fuming if he saw it.
