Agree with everything said, been a pleasure reading such
detailed reports from Alfie and can’t really quibble with
anything he says.
I thought Gardner was excellent again, he has a real affinity
with what is unfolding around him and communicates so well with
the players. It’s a shame so much time is being spent arguing
about the final penalty; by the letter of the law it was a
correct decision. Some of the so called pundits and comments
from supporters on other sites do themselves no credit
whatsoever. Talk of “inept”, “biased”, “bent” etc Aussie refs is
ridiculous and stinks to me of poor sportsmanship and bad
losers. Gardners sympathetic refereeing helped to make the game
so absorbing.
What a Championship overall! Of the 15 matches played 2 matches
were settled by 1 point, 3 by 2 points, 2 by 3 points and 2 by 4
points, as well as the France v Italy draw. That’s two thirds of
games where the max margin was 4 points. I can’t recall a Six
Nations as close as this but will stand corrected

I think all parties will come out of this championship having
learnt a lot.
Wales have blooded lots of newbies and different combinations -
they will come good, if trusted
Italy were magnificent and but for "that kick" would have been
fully rewarded on the points table. Pleasing to see foundations
that were put in 10 years ago bearing fruit.
Scotland once again were the nearly men - why can they not bring
the same intensity they do to others as they do to England? The
decision late against France aside they have to play 80 minute
rugby against all sides
England tried hard in patches- a new defence, which when it
works is great, not everyone has quite bought into it yet and
left us exposed. The main thing for England was balance -
mitchell/Ford, care/Smith, martin/chesshum/Earl etc A better
overall result than perhaps we expected or deserved. If they win
WC27 noone will care about 6N results
Ireland were ruthless in patches and on the end deserved the
title. The game at Twickenham will serve to remind them that
there are other teams who can match them for key parts of games,
the game in Marseille testament to when the Irish get it right
From an officiating side most performed well. I agree Gardner
looked good, confident, returning to his best. Pearce, to me. Is
the NH stand out (which makes WC even more surreal). Very
impressed with out big Georgian, coming on leaps and bounds
O'Keefe, Berry and Williams also did well, set the tone, along
with Dickson
The role of the TMO must continue to develop and I liked the
fact we had a 3rd scenario around tries emerge as not to back a
referee into a corner, sometimes you just can't see it.
A very enjoyable 5 weeks of rugby. Here's hoping the NH can now
go and compete regularly in the SH.
