Grealish was at least a yard onside. No way that is a plausible
excuse (and it wasn’t a hard offside decision).

This whole post and subsequent rant at Man City's "staggering
ignorance of the law" is quite ironic given your whole post is
based around something which is factually incorrect and a wholly
inaccurate portrayal of what happened!
Grealish isn't offside (by a long way!) and the AR2 doesn't stop
running until Hooper blows his whistle.

City players surrounding the referee? Not for the first time.
But nothing will be done. It’s always the same with new
directives. The referees all give them for a few months then
slip back into their old ways

He’ll be thinking pretty much what the rest of us are, it’s one
rule for Man City and the four or five power clubs, and another
rule for the rest.
Man City especially, and Pep on the touch line, get away with
murder week in week out

Oh Dear! Thats all I can say. Another Howler from Hooper. Second
big game this season ended in controversy of his own making.
Noticed he wasn't signalling throw ins at all during the game
which most refs do. Also, he didn't struggle to know when to
play advantage all game.
What makes the decision at the end worse is the fact he plays
advantage and sees him running through on goal and blows up
Only thing is a potential communication error between him and
his AR's which wouldn't be a first, perhaps Long said give it
like last time in Spurs vs Liverpool
Good call not to fold under pressure and give City a penalty at
the end for a dive by Akanji.
Yet again disgraceful behaviour from Haaland, Rodri, Grealish
and Co and Pep shouting at Anthony Taylor. Haaland in particular
lucky to avoid a red card. Honestly when will City face fair
treatment they seem to get far more than their fair share of
treatment in more than one aspect.
I am very surprised Pep didn't approach Hooper at the end.

Accepting that it is not offside does not mean that the AR and
referee were coming to the (incorrect) conclusion that it was
going to be offside and that a free-kick for the original
offence is the best (or least worst) outcome.
They may have been incorrect, but that just puts them in a group
of 100% of the human beings on planet earth. It is sad that -
after a game in which there were mistakes aplenty - the wrath of
the world seems to be heaped on the referee! But it was ever
thus .... a zillion pound striker misses an open goal and he is
"unlucky"; a referee makes a mistake .....

What I am most surprised about is why Hooper looked so shocked
that they where asking him about why he blew up. The more I
watch it the more it makes no sense he only blows once he has
signalled advantage and Grealish is running in. I really don't
get why he has done it. Its not offside, but if they think it is
so quickly to not delay then surely Long has to flag it and
Hooper signal offside.

I completely agree with your second comment... Hooper had an
excellent game until that moment but that is what he'll be
remembered for... a little bit like a goalkeeper who makes 5
great saves in a game and then throws one in at the end to cost
his team!
However, I cannot agree with your view that the officials
thought (incorrectly) that Grealish was offside so brought it
back. IMO there is no way the AR2 thought it was offside and
communicated this to Hooper. I think Simon Hooper for whatever
reason, didn't recognise the advantage or had a brain fade or
whatever you want to call it and pulled it back incorrectly.
Man City's behaviour towards him was disgraceful - but I think
Hooper's refusal to punish them for it was essentially his
admittance that he knew straight away he had messed up. I don't
agree with it - he should still have punished Man City's players
- but I think the reason he didn't is because straight away he
knew he had got it wrong.

Doesnt mean Grealish wouldnt have tripped over his shoe laces or
a blade of grass as he made his way towards goal. A defender may
have caught him up and tackled him, he may have hit the man in
row zz with his shot, all ifs and buts.
Hooper will be very upset with himself, we have all done this
during our careers it is just unfortunate.
A moment where the referee standing there aiming two fingers of
each hand to each of his ears, ie being too quick on the draw,
sorry lads my fault.
