Yes, it's quite puzzling as to what made him decide that there
was no longer an advantage. In the absence of anything else
plausible I wonder if he thought, or was advised, that Grealish
might have been offside.

I’ve seen the clip, thought it was poor at first but from of
Hooper and AR2, think it might have been offside

I think Simon Hooper has been very hard done by as he did Man
City a big favour.
After the foul he certainly played (and signalled advantage) but
when the pass was played you could clearly see the AR halting
his run in readiness to raise his flag for offside. As the AR
will have communicated this to Simon Hooper he "saved" Man City
by coming back and awarding the original free-kick. Whilst the
"advantage" would have been better, it was no good to Man City
if flagged for offside. The outcome is the best that it could
have been for Man City and their reaction betrays a staggering
ignorance of the law as well as equally staggering arrogance.
Perhaps it would have been better for overall communication if
the AR had actually raised his flag for offside (like in the
olden days before comms were around).

I have just seen a still of the pass and Grealish is very much
onside.

Or do as rugby do blow the whistle to show offside then blow
again to say "no advantage, fk here". All about communication

He was clearly onside - a flag going up there would be an
equally terrible decision. My thought was AR2 heard Hooper via
the comms that he was pulling it back and so decided to save his
legs.

Somebody must say something to him unless he thinks the ball is
not going to get through as he signals advantage and almost
immediately blows up

But it wasn’t offside. Not even close. So how has he done Man
City a favour? Apologies if I’m missing something but I really
don’t understand this post
