Imo jones and kavanagh are getting close to Taylor and Oliver
not there yet but could in future.brooks been good recently too

I would also like to give VAR Michael Salisbury a mention when
he looked at potential incidents he came to the conclusion
quickly and correctly

Well I'm going to support ajb95 on this. Yes, Jones was good
overall but I did think he was lenient on sanctions.
The one in the first half had the commentators surprised at what
they thought was an obvious YC. Jones apparently missed the
challenge on Fernandes in the 2nd half as he didn't give a foul
which, while probably accidental, caught him just above the
boot. so I can understand Fernandes irritation in that instance.
And Maguire could have been cautioned earlier for PI. His
eventual YC was correct for that foul alone. I will say this for
Maguire though - he was one of the few United players to show
passion and commitment.
That said, Robert Jones is an impressive figure and was always
in control of the game. It's good that Taylor and Oliver now
have some serious competition for the big games with Kavanagh
also back fit and in good form.
Incidentally, I too had noticed that Oliver has not been in the
middle as frequently over the past couple of months. At least 2
weekends off and another when he was only on VAR duties. Taylor
had a Euro qualifier and a CL game recently, Oliver a Europa
League game on Thursday. Is he just being rested more or
carrying a slight injury perhaps?

I haven't seen the game but wanted to pick up on the points made
by ajb95 and Ref Fan - in principle. Whether or not those
cautions were warranted in this case, it does strike me that the
criteria for success in terms of referee performance in the
English game seems to be to award as few free kicks/sanctions as
possible but not lose control or miss a penalty or red card. I
can obviously follow the logic to this but perhaps this game
plan also requires a bit luck that might explain why English
referees struggle in hot games where they can't rely on the
background passive approach.
Saying that, glad if we get through a weekend without a publicly
perceived calamity and hope Rob Jones has continued good form
for the season and beyond.

The Schar late challenge on Fernandes was discussed on Ref Watch
for a possible red card.
Dermot said it was definitely not 'play on' which is what Jones
did, but agreed it was not a RC offence but would have been if
contact was 2 inches higher.
I can't help thinking if Fernandes had been the perpetrator of
such a challenge it wouldn't have been only me that commented on
here.
Jones appeared to have a good view so I felt it was a poor miss
on his part, which is why I didn't quite share the adulation of
it being a superb, excellent or masterclass of a performance.
From Ref Watch:
DERMOT SAYS: "Certainly shouldn't have been play on.He is
reaching for the ball and comes through and stands on his foot.
"So I think it is low enough for a yellow. If it was above his
ankle and his shin then a red card."

Dermot also suggested that Mr Jones probably didn't have a clear
view despite the opinion of our earlier correspondent
