At least a month ago or so now.

3weeks to the day.still unlikely to have same ref for 2 matches
in a row with same teams.

You often get referees take charge of the two games between the
same sides in the league during a season. I would think the
starting line ups may be very different to the cup match.

I feel for Simon Hooper. Had the best season last season he's
ever had. Proved he can be trusted with some of the biggest
games in this country. He delivered good performances week after
week and then was overlooked for the Carabao Cup final by a
referee not as good as him. He was overlooked for the FA Cup
final by a referee who is very hit and miss and was overlooked
for the Championship Play off final. He must think what else do
I have to do to be given the honour of a major final. He is
probably more likely to get a final not being very good (see
Mason and Moss getting cup finals)
I like Hooper as a referee and hope he does reach the level
again of last season.

Perhaps his confidence and mental health took more of a bashing
than thought after the Liverpool game at Spurs with the var
shambles.
I am sure he will continue to work hard and will return to form
soon, it is difficult after a difficult incident happens in a
game.
Hopefully he will be rewarded in the future when is back to
form.

Just to be clear, he was not overlooked for both finals last
season. He could not have officiate any of the matches as one
of his Assistants is from Manchester area or support a
Manchester team.

Is that right though?
Surely the FA Cup Final appointment is made based on the referee
and assistants* who are the highest placed on their respective
merit lists**, who has not refereed the final before*** and who
cannot referee it due to previously declared teams thy cannot
referee.
* separately, not as a team
** or whatever it is called
*** yes, I know exceptions have been made to this recently re
the finals during and after Covid.
As Simon Hooper has clearly referreed both Man City and Man Utd
I find it impossible that he could not have been appointed to
the FA Cup Final due to "one of his assistants comes from
Manchester or supports a Manchester team".
I would think that would rule the assistant out, but not Simon??

1. not how it works
2. Adrian Holmes should be no where near a cup final
3. They can and do work work with other ARs. Could have been
Simon Long and someone else, Neil Davies/Scott Ledger.
4. Adrian Holmes has done both Manchester clubs many times and
isnt from Manchester area. Simon Long is from Cornwall and has
done both Manchester clubs dont know what the issue is. Hooper
is from Swindon.
5. Tierney is closer to Manchester than any of Hoopers team
