I am pleased that AT applied Law and dismissed Dunk for abusive
language directed at the referee. His actions have been
generally applauded (outside Brighton) and commentators have
added that more players acting in this way should receive the
same sanction.
BUT AT is one of England's "big two" referees and has full
licence to take such action as his employment contract is secure
for as long as he wants it. Add to that the fact that Brighton
are not one of the EPL's "big clubs" and this makes it a more
straightforward decision for him to make.
I wonder if a much more junior (and less secure, in employment
terms) referee is confronted in the same way by a "big name"
from a "big club"? Picking names from thin air ..... Thomas
Bramhall and Bruno Fernandes. How confident are we of the same
outcome?

Absolutely - clubs like Brighton have suffered relative to the
"big clubs" in the Premier League for many years. VAR has helped
with this to an extent, but it's far from eliminated.

Not sure if the dislike for this is a dislike to the above
happening or a dislike of someone pointing it out.

2 match suspension has been confirmed for the use of offensive,
insulting or abusive language (S6).
I would like this type of offence to have a higher standard
punishment, at least equal to the 3 match minimum for SFP or VC.

This jumped out a me from the BBC piece on Dunk's 2 game ban....
It means he is the first player to be sent off for abusing a
referee while on the pitch during a game since Alan Smith for
Newcastle United when the Magpies were beaten 6-0 by Manchester
United in January 2008.
Red cards have been shown for such dissent after the final
whistle in the years since Smith's offence, with Sunderland's
Lee Cattermole dismissed at the end of the derby against
Newcastle in March 2012 and Neal Maupay sent off for Brighton
against Wolves in May 2021. Matheus Nunes was red-carded for the
same offence when on the bench for Wolves against Leeds in March
2023.

Shocking how its taken that long, I find it hard to believe that
nobody has verbally abused a match official during a game in
that time.

I think its probable that match officials have been abused in
that time but not sanctioned correctly, however i may be wrong.
