Are there any referees that you do actually think do a good job?
17 posts so far and all of them negative.

Firstly bmb . I don’t think that is quite right. It certainly
isn’t correct with the old site. Am I not allowed to have an
opinion then?. Just because it is negative it doesn’t mean it is
wrong to post is it. I have written based on what I see. I watch
certain games live and the last two have had Mr Attwell as the
ref. That’s not my fault, neither is the fact he has made
crucial errors in both games. I stand by my comments from before
and if you actually looked back I was praising him when he got
back to SG1. Not my fault he has IMO fallen back from a good SG1
to him being an average SG2.

Charlieboy. You are correct it is rate the ref. Is there
something that I have missed. Isn’t it allowed to rate them
lowly. It is after all my opinion. You don’t need to agree. But
a forum is surely for all opinions?.

Refs make crucial errors all the time it’s part of football. I
think some people on here - and myself included - have an agenda
against certain refs for what has happened in the past instead
of concentrating on the here and now l!

Just seen the highlights and from the view of Stuart Attwell
it's not possible to see where it hit. I certainly don't think
from his view it's an error as it doesn't look like it
categorically hit his arm.
From side on it is more conclusive though

Should he stand there saying 'I'm not sure chaps'? Sometimes
you just don't know. If you look decisive you have more chance
of selling the decision. If you are proved wrong later so be
it; you can apologise and move on. At least you haven't
endangered your match control in the meantime.

You are welcome to whatever opinion you want to have. It says a
lot though when people only pop up to post something negative,
especially repeatedly about the same referee but are very silent
with anything positive about anyone. Currently your choice of
posts on this forum certainly make you look like you have an
agenda and are only here to slate referees. Most people manage
more balanced posting, pointing out good decisions as well as
some real howlers.

I've 'agreed' with you Ref Watcher. However I just wonder
whether Stuart was too quick to 'cut the grass' and wave away
the appeals for a penalty. A steadier Michael Oliver-type
approach might have been better, allowing himself time to see if
the AR wanted to input from his position. It was interesting to
note that two Boro players - the one who handled the ball and
his colleague close by - both stopped momentarily, presumably
expecting the whistle to be blown, which might have given a hint
to Stuart. However I still think that from his angle, Stuart was
not wrong to wave away the appeals.
Comeonref - kick off was at 7.45pm and your first post was at
8.01pm. I switched on at about 8.15pm and immediately thought
that Stuart had dropped a real clanger, which seemed to be
confirmed by the side view of the incident on replay. You
obviously seemed to think the same. I am not sure that 15
minutes is enough time to rate a ref, certainly not as 'out of
his depth'. Could I suggest a minimum of half time + Ray
Winstone encouraging us to get rich quick + drivel from the
pundits before posting. Or better still, at the end of the game
when you might have agreed with me that Stuart had a decent game
in the v trying conditions. Just a thought. ;D

If you are looking at a player side on, like Attwell was, it is
impossible to see if the ball hit the chest or the top of the
arm. From one of the camera angles it looked like the assistant
might have been blocked by the player crossing the ball. What
we don't know is what was said on comms, it may be the assistant
immediately shouted can't see it, or perhaps shouted no
handball, or perhaps Attwell himself shouted no penalty thereby
ruling the assistant out.
This is exactly the kind of decision that VAR needs to be
sorting out. Doesn't matter how good a referee is there will be
somethings that they just cannot see through no fault of their
own.

I see comeonref has started the last two Attwell trends on here
, and both highly negative
