This could be a testing evening for Glova, arguably two more
North Macedonian players could have gone in the book with some
really aggressive fouling.
The only card for Elmas was for backchat rather than the foul.

Absolutely ridiculous decision to award the penalty against Rico
Lewis.
What is VAR doing getting involved and secondly Glova has
agreed.
Not good at all…

Never a foul anywhere on the pitch. Where do they get these
officials from. Very poor decision by VAR and the referee.

As you all know, I’m a big supporter of referees at all levels
as they have a hard job. But that decision is simply ludicrous,
there is no other description that fits the bill. It’s an
accidental clash, there’s no intent from Lewis to foul his man.
The VAR wrong to intervene but as we see so often, the on field
referee doesn’t have the courage of his convictions and reverses
the call!
I personally don’t want to read any more criticism of English
referees and VARs as surely none of the decisions this season
have been as bad as that tonight. The game is gone if that’s
going to be the mediocre standard of decision making that
predominates on the continent.

Agree that wasn’t a penalty but surely the Maguire incident
should have been. Poor officiating.
For the one that was given I don’t think Glova really wanted to
give it even after reviewing it but couldn’t find the courage to
stick to his guns.

Or do UEFA take a dim view of almighty Big Brother being
rejected by the on the field official after an OFR, because
that’s the sense and normality we are acquainting ourselves
with.
I cannot remember a single OFR being rejected by the referee in
a UEFA competition (happy to be corrected of course).

Think this is my first real look at Mr Glova and he seems to be
a UEFA robot. He doesn't seem to want to engage in dialogue and
just gives harsh stares to cut out any chance of rapport.
Some early targeted fouling from the hosts, the polite way to
put it I think, saw no sanctions - only Elmas for dissent.
Atanasov commits four fouls in about 35 mins but not even a
talking to.
The penalty is a poor review. No need for VAR to get involved
and wholly agree with UmpireIan's sentiments that it's a jump
for the ball and Lewis' arm is out for balance rather than an
attempt to hit the Macedonian forwards head.

I’m falling out of love with the game rapidly,all football
lovers really want is games refereed fairly and to the laws ,
but what actually does that mean these days?everything is
labelled subjective and the official is virtually always backed,
nothing changes for the better and the enjoyment is being sucked
right out of the game .
