Ipswich v Swansea Sunny Singh Gill

From the evidence of today I would say Sunny Singh Gill isn't
ready yet for SG2. He was too unaware of what was happening
around him and therefore on occasions was slow to react to what
was going on which could have led to quite serious match control
issues. His foul detection seemed somewhat random and at times
he appeared to be finding it quite hard to keep a grip on a
match which was only moderately challenging. Fitness seemed to
be OK but I was left with the impression that he needs to be
more experienced before possibly stepping up to SG2.
It was an entertaining enough match, Ipswich doing their best
to give away a two goal lead against a ten man Swansea team. A
sharper performance required from both my team and the referee.

looks like he got all the big calls correct and he has a very
languid laid back style which makes u think he isnt in control

I’m wondering if you ever had the chance to see his father in
action Whistleblower?
He certainly has the desire to follow in Jarnail’s shoes given
the interviews I’ve seen of them both.

Nothing wrong with a laid back style, in fact I rather approve
of it but there is a difference between that and not having
complete control. I genuinely felt Sunny Singh Gill fell into
the latter category though I am sure in time he will make the SG
ranks.

"All the big calls correct" ? What were all these big calls?
The outcome did not really depend on any of the referee's calls,
which in my opinion is just as well. The two significant calls
were disallowing an Ipswich goal and awarding a penalty to
Ipswich for the only two incidents of Swansea's continual
holding he decided to take action on.
I thought he was comfortably the worst referee to grace Portman
Road this season. Whistleblower has summed up the issues fairly
succinctly and might have added blowing for unnecessary
freekicks for minor fouls when possession had been retained. His
lack of awareness of what was going on was not being laid back
in front of probably the biggest crowd he's officiated in front
of. It was I think as a result of being pushed too far, too fast
for whatever reason. It was only 18 months or so ago I saw him
have a poor game exhibiting the same symptoms in the National
League. Yesterday, even Mrs n who rarely comments on referees
said that he doesn't seem to know what he's doing even before
many of the crowd chanted to that effect! Laid back ? He should
be laid off !
Also a word about Shaun Hudson the dug-out side Assistant who
had travelled all the way from County Durham to give an abject
performance with at least 5 incorrect offside calls or
non-calls, some benefitting Ipswich, some Swansea.
Whistleblower, I think you are being a bit harsh on Ipswich
though as they have just equalled the best ever start to any
Championship season, after 16 games, by any team, ever. They've
also scored three or more goals in each of their last seven home
league matches. Only their profligacy in front of goal prevented
them from wiping out their 4 goal difference deficit to
Leicester in the space of 20 minutes before half-time. Not bad
for a newly promoted team.

I don't know about Whistleblower, but I certainly had the
pleasure of watching Jarnail on many occasions particularly when
he was working his way through non-league football where he was
excellent and highly respected.
When he reached League football in 2004/5 he was a good steady
official for most of his 6 years as a League referee, however,
towards the end, things went a little awry.

I entirely agree with m'learned friend nemesis about Jarnail
Singh. A very creditable Football League toiler.
I remain quite convinced that his son is not ready for SG2. This
was not a convincing performance. Just too far off the pace
Also agree about the AR Hudson who really struggled to keep up
with play.
Perhaps I have been a little harsh on Ipswich but their
performance in the last fifteen minutes against 10 men was
pretty abject in my view

From my own experiences, I agree with most of the above. Seen
Sunny 3 times: first time he was excellent, 2nd time he was very
poor and 3rd time below average. I know it’s not the be all and
end all of being a good official, but he comes across for a fan
as being so uninterested and almost annoyed that he has to
referee a game! He doesn’t seem to converse with players at all
and then books them when they appear to get frustrated at him
not doing so.
Obviously I have to add that I can’t hear what’s going on but
that’s just my opinion from what I can go by.
