Sad to hear this evening that former referee George Tyson from
Sunderland passed away last night aged 84.
George had a lovely career in the seventies and eighties and
afterwards doing the after dinner and talk ins.
May he Rest in Eternal Peace.

Very sad to hear of this news, always liked George as a referee.
My first rememberings of him refereeing were at the Old Show
Ground Scunthorpe mid january 1984 an f a cup third round second
replay (those were the days). Allan Clarkes Scunthorpe Utd beat
Leeds Utd 4-2, midway through the second half Neil Aspin of
Leeds was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Sorry to hear this. I don't think I ever saw George in action,
but I recall he was known as a bit of a disciplinarian on the
field. RIP.

Memories of watching him on MOTD and The Big Match many times.
Never seemed to have a bad game. R.I.P. George and condolences
to family and friends.

I thought I was right and have just looked it up to confirm;
George Tyson ran the line in the 1988 FA Cup Final ( Crazy Gang
and Culture Club ) to Brian Hill. I think that was when the
senior linesman was a National List referee who was being
rewarded for having had a particularly good season. It seems
that the authorities also appreciated George Tyson's
officiating. He retired from the National List two years later.

Here's a photo Whistleblower from Facebook if you can access it.
It's also on Hackett's X a/c.

Yes indeed, thank you Ref Fan. The other linesman being
Portsmouth's Mike Pierce. The officiating team certainly came
from the North, South and Midlands that day.
