Richard Silverwood - Keith Hackett

Kudos to Richard Silverwood ( ex rugby league ref) who has
admonished Keith Hackett on Twitter.
“I find it deplorable that an ex referee and boss of referees
constantly criticises officials. Over the years, calls for
referees sacked. I just find that unbelievable coming from
Someone who has been in their position.” “Howard Webb will be
fully aware of the issues without bitter and twisted Hackett
sticking the knife into officials calling them
Inept and in needs of sacking. Being an ex professional referee
I would
Never speak about officials in that way”
Well said sir!!

Hackett has really blown a gasket in the last few weeks… I only
read his articles as the rubbish he comes out with sometimes is
frankly laughable and unwarranted.

And as for calling some referees “lazy”, well perhaps certain
individuals should look closer to home as to their fitness
levels when they officiated in previous eras.

Well done to Richard Silverwood, i admired him as a top rugby
league referee and agree with his condemnation of Hacketts
antics.

I do think that people should be at liberty to express their
opinions. I realise that some comments might be unwelcome in
some quarters, but whether we like it or not, provided it is not
contrary to law free speech is a right.
There are some pundits on TV football that have plenty to say
about footballers and I see no reason why someone with knowledge
of refereeing at the top level shouldn’t be entitled to a view
about referees or their management even if others disagree.

I think what gets to me most is the constant “it was so perfect
in my day and no one else can get it right like me” slant. It
wasn’t perfect in his day, there were as many mistakes and
issues but they were not highlighted in the same way that they
are now. These days every tiny error is over analysed, trends on
SM, the media constantly berate and vilify referees. When is the
last time you heard any of them give any airtime to a sublime
advantage or a great decision? Yes express opinions but stop
being a bitter old man because that just loses all credibility.

I might be biased, but he completely ruined a Stockport v
Rochdale game in 1985 with an early sending-off he never saw and
two dubious penalties to the home side for fouls on a player who
we had sent on loan to County and then oddly let him play. Not
that I'm bitter 38 years later....
When I asked him about it on Twitter, for once, he never
responded.

Of course Hackett has the right to express an opinion, just as
Silverwood has the right to criticise what is expressed and I
have the right never to waste a second more of my time reading
what I consider to be unadulterated dross ( for the sake of
clarity I speak of Hackett not Silverwood )

Agree with Whistleblower! Why have I wasted time commenting upon
it?
