Right, where to start. First half, Simon was inconsistent with
foul recognition, with a guessing game of whether it’s a foul or
not. Second half, much better….. until the 92nd minute. From a
Crewe set-piece, Notts County were on the counterattack when
Simon blows his whistle. He had pulled his hamstring, which
corresponded the chants of “you’re not fit to referee.” After 3
minutes, Richard Wigglesworth replaced him, and boy he didn’t
expect what was to come next. He, and Danny Gratton, both agreed
that it was a penalty for Crewe after a deliberate handball.
Danny came on the pitch and pointed to the Notts County fans,
who were shouting”cheat cheat cheat.” The away fans had threw
something at Danny, because he flagged for the penalty. The
penalty was scored, and it was a stoppage of 10 mins after, with
police trying to sort the away fans out. AR1 and Danny swapped
sides, with Crewe fans shouting “Lino Lino Lino” to Danny. Play
restarted, then after 30 seconds, Richard blew his whistle. When
Simon pulled up, Richard was probably thinking what he’s going
to have for his tea! That’s the second injury for Simon Mather
now. I bet Acme is gutted to not make it!!

Yes and no. I was sorry to miss the game but I had a good
afternoon with Mrs AT's family including a pub visit and a walk
in the sun. I smiled when I saw the score was still 0-0 with
just a few minutes left, but thought even then that something
might happen before the end, which of course it did. But I
wondered what was happening when the BBC football news showed
the goal at 90+8 and then '90+19' and the game still in progress
at 5.10pm. A medical emergency perhaps? Well yes, in a sense,
but to the referee rather than a member of the crowd. Simon
Mather's injury was one reason for the delays which could not be
helped, but the further delays caused by the AR being hit by
something thrown from the away fans in the Ice Cream Stand was a
completely different thing and such behaviour has no part to
play in any game. I shall watch the highlights with interest and
no doubt there will be enquiries and action on the incident.

I've looked at the brief highlights and read some of the
comments on fan forums from both Crewe and Notts County fans.
The County fans felt aggrieved that because they were in
possession on the attack when Mr Mather pulled up, that they
ought to have been given an uncontested drop ball to re-start. I
don't know how soon after that the penalty incident was?
Having seen the footage of the penalty, it seemed to me that the
defender's arms were out wide and the ball seems to hit an arm,
so appears a fair decision. Others have suggested it actually
hits his body. Mr Wrigglesworth doesn't instantly award the
penalty, although close to the action, but Mr Gratton flags
about 10-15 seconds afterwards and the penalty awarded.
It hopefully goes without saying that the subsequent behaviour
of the visiting fans was totally unacceptable.

Oh sorry I thought I replied to earlier post, Ed duckworth

My first sighting of Mr Duckworth in action. I don't know
whether it's rose-tinted due seeing my team manage a rare win,
or he's attracted such negative comment that I went to the game
expecting a lot worse, but thought he was ok. He let a few
things go early on or settled for just a free-kick when perhaps
a card was merited, but the game was played in good spirit and
it didn't come back to bite him. A bit pernickety about where
throw-ins were taken from broke up the flow a bit. FGR's
Barnard, who was on a YC for dissent appeared to control the
ball with his arm, second YC and off. Perhaps a bit unfortunate
the way the ball come onto him, but if he'd kept quiet earlier,
it wouldn't have mattered. Mr Duckworth didn't get any KMIs
wrong, his fitness and positioning were sound and he explained
decisions to players when queried.

It was way over a minute from when we restarted play to the
penalty.

Sounds like an unbelievable ending at Gresty Road! However sadly
the drama is indeed overshadowed by the unpleasant scenes. Let’s
hope the offending fans get some deserved punishment.
It’s hard to assess Peter Wright’s performance yesterday, I felt
Sutton were a really disruptive side, a lot of fouls, leaving
some marks on our players and a load of timewasting until we
scored. Peter was absolutely right with the cards he did give to
both sides but he really should have got on top of the
timewasting a lot sooner. Sutton’s 22 (already on a yellow) must
have spent 40-50 seconds on a throw twice. I also felt there was
a foul by him on our winger which would almost certainly have
been a second yellow if given (haven’t seen the replay though).
He gave 4 minutes of added time, which was incredibly low for
what I witnessed - of course it appeared that Sutton would be
the ones punished for that if not for a 95th minute goal…
Overall, a good enough performance but room for improvement with
clock management for sure.
