Sheffield United v Wolves - Rob Jones

Was it a penalty, wasn’t it? Another controversial penalty
decision against Wolves, they must be feeling slightly annoyed
as that’s at least 4 I can think of this season.

Player steps across ball, was already falling
Not a penalty but falls into the "seen them given" so was never
going to get reversed by VAR

Similar to last week not sure how much contact there was. Could
Mr Jones have given himself another second or two thinking time?

It’s never a penalty in a million years. I genuinely feel sorry
for Wolves, it’s bizarre how much is going against them.
Anyone who knows football can tell you on first viewing that is
not a foul. It’s a dive, the attacker knows exactly what he’s
doing.
So why is Rob Jones giving it? I’ve got a theory that won’t be
popular on here, but I’ll say it how I see it. I’ve thought on
more than one occasion over the past few seasons, that if
there’s one referee who can occasionally get caught up in the
fervent, baying atmosphere of a home crowd, then it’s Rob. And I
genuinely believe this is what happened yesterday. The whole
crowd scream for a pen, and Rob momentarily loses his cool, gets
a bit carried away and gives it. I honestly don’t believe that
gets given at the other end. Not because Rob is biased or
anything like that, but purely for the reasons I’ve stated.
As I said, on a refereeing site that is full of qualified refs,
that opinion won’t go down well, but it’s genuinely how I see it
with Rob.

I think Gary O'Neil jokingly said in the week that you don't
want to referee Wolves as you end up in the Championship the
week after. I think Mr Jones will be the latest referee to join
this club.
It's quite incredible how all these decisions seem to be going
against Wolves. The Sheff Utd player actually played on, no
appeal from him, bizaare decision. Surely that is a clear and
obvious error ?

O'Neil needs to sort the arrogance of his teams defending out.
The Newcastle situation came about following a woeful corner,
ironically cleared at the near post by a Newcastle player. His
defender stalls on the ball for no reason whatsoever and
concedes the foul when a challenge didn't need to be made.
This incident is similar. Defend properly and take the decision
away from the officials.

That has no relevance on the decisions given. We can't award
penalties for poor defending.

The penalty is on the soft side, but we (Sheffield United) had
two other strong penalty claims in the few minutes prior to the
one given that fit into the same category of “whatever the
referee gives will be backed by VAR”. Two decisions went the way
of wolves and one went the way of SU.
If Gary Oniel wants to complain about soft fouls then he needs
to have a word with himself and sort out his own teams antics
first. Wolves spent the entire game attempting to (and often
successfully) deceiving the referee. Rob Jones’s performance and
foul detection unfortunately left a lot to be desired on this
occasion.

Jones doesn't half love a penalty, 23 in 57 Premier League games
is a lot of penalties. Paul Tierney for contrast has given 36 in
164 matches which is a lot less per game
