       Wayne Barnes Retires

As suspected - Wayne has officially retired!
For me, one of the best referees in the modern era by a country
       mile!!
True legend of the game and wishing Wayne all the very best in
       his retirement.
       Will be sorely missed

Some of us knew this beforehand and so it is no surprise to me
but even so, it is a sad day. An outstanding referee, a top
bloke and has put up with a lot of unfair criticism. Even now
some New Zealanders cannot bring themselves to congratulate him
but I believe they are in a minority.
I hope he has a fulfilled retirement and that his family can
enjoy more time together away from the limelight.

Having seen WB live both domestically and in Europe, he had
developed into one of our best referees ever. His game
management was brilliant, never afraid of the big decisions and
       wonderful communicator.
I shall look forward to the book and the speaking tour!
Good luck Barnsey and thank you

Surely a much deserved MBE awaits in the next honours list

A fitting tribute on TNT even if BO'D had to tell the one story
where Barnes was getting it wrong!

If he's minded to accept such an honour then I think it is
almost certain, perhaps even something higher. In football, the
late Jack Taylor received an OBE and Howard Webb a MBE. I
believe the late Ken Aston also received a MBE. In Rugby Jim
Fleming, Derek Bevan and Nigel Owens received MBEs while Ed
Morrison received an OBE. There may indeed be other referees
       who were so honoured.
