How on earth did Mr Webb (not Howard) not give this a s a
penalty. Mike Dean rightly thinks it's a crazy decision

Not a fan of Webb and listening to his comms on the portal clips
is cringe. Doesn't look like he belongs in the Championship.
Dean at least being his own man and publicly calling the
decision out.

There are some decisions that refs at that level, or any level
actually, should never ever get wrong. This is one of those.
It’s even worse than the Onana one earlier this season.
Absolutely diabolical from Webb
Refgod, what are the ‘portal clips’ you refer to? Would like a
listen if possible

PGMOL Portal for referees 2B and up; assistants Step 1 and

Not for one minute defending this decision, but I think the
powers that be have yet again created a huge amount of
uncertainty by introducing the phrase “expected contact“. I have
heard so many times this season from referees at 2b and above as
to why collisions like that shouldn’t result in free kicks
because the contact “is expected” in the challenge.
I don’t operate at that level, so I don’t know how this has been
implemented, but there seems to be a theme occurring around not
giving decisions where compact “is expected” whether it be legal
or not.

Thanks for the info, RefGod, much appreciated
I’m guessing it’s just for the chosen few, and can’t be viewed
by us mere mortals?
I’ve now seen Mike Dean’s reaction on Soccer Saturday. I’m
surprised at the language he’s used. ‘Embarrassing’ and ‘basic
refereeing’. All the refs at that level clearly know each other,
and I’d be shocked if Mike would speak like that about someone
he liked. With your comments earlier, RefGod, that David Webb is
‘cringe’ on comms, would I be right in guessing he’s perhaps a
slightly abrasive character that could possibly rub people up
the wrong way?!
