Keith Stroud - Leicester v Sunderland

It’s quite an achievement to have the crowd singing your name to
personally insult you when that team hasn’t been in the league
you ref in for nearly a decade.
Anyway, not his finest evening. Inconsistencies, inconsistencies
and even more inconsistencies. What was a foul? Nobody knew.
We’ve had some decent SG2 performances at Leicester so far this
season. This wasn’t one. I haven’t watched the game back but I’m
certain Sunderland should’ve had a penalty at the end of the
first half from where I was sat. It should’ve been an easy game
to referee and he made a right old pig’s ear of it.

Watched the game as a neutral and thought he was pretty good,
there was. One poor decision and that was the non award of a
Penalty kick to Sunderland just before the break but from his
angle it most definitely was not obvious, it was disappointing
that he got no help from his assistant who he looked at for help
and who had a clear view, the Leicester fans embarrassed
themselves after an incident of handbags which he actually dealt
with quite well despite an attempt of intimidation by
vestergaard , I was pleased to see iheanacho yellow carded for a
very childish display of sarcastic clapping after being pulled
up (correctly) for a foul . I felt he played several good
advantages in an attempt to keep things moving and also didn’t
fall for anyone going down softly shall we say , all in all a
good display.

That angle is brilliant for the watching public. How on earth
would you expect a referee or an AR to give that from where they
would have been? As the attacker moves slightly in field, the
ball continues to run, which from the opposite side and 15/18
yards away will look like a deflection - hence, the corner! If
there was VAR you might just get that one

To be fair that’s less of a penalty than it looked from my
position in the stand. I thought it was a stone waller, now it’s
almost a stone waller.

Below average evening for Mr Stroud, missed a penalty for
Sunderland at the end of the first half for a foul on Neil then
missed a penalty for Leicester in the second half, instead
awarding a free kick despite the foul continuing for three or
four yards into the penalty area.
All yellow cards correct.
Foul detection was strange, let a lot of holding go in the first
half and early parts of the second half, which is fine, until he
then decided to start giving fouls for every single bit of
contact. Made it look very messy and I’m not sure anyone
understood where his tolerance level sat.
Also played some very strange advantages. I’m all for letting
the game flow, but he was continually trying to play advantage
when there was clearly nothing to be gained.
Experienced referee but I’ve certainly seen him perform much
better than that.

It was a penalty all day long .I don't blame the ref (and he's
certainly not a favourite of mine)because from his position it
would have been a guess but the assistant should have seen it.
It's about time assistants actually assisted the referees a bit
more. I know it's difficult with the crowd being right on their
shoulder but too many of them seem to take the easy option and
leave the man in the middle to cop the flak.

I agree with you yfc54 but the assistant can only act on the
instructions given to him by the match referee prior to kick
off.

Just because I've seen it mentioned twice here, advantage is not
awarded "to let the game flow," it is awarded so as not to
penalize the team who have been fouled. Flow of the game is not
a consideration for advantage.
