World Mental Health Day
By: bmb Date: October 10, 2023, 8:09 am
---------------------------------------------------------
The theme for World Mental Health Day 2023 is 'Mental health is
a universal human right.' This subject emphasises the necessity
of assuring that everyone, regardless of age, socioeconomic
class, or background should have access to high-quality mental
health care and support.
Today is a day to talk about mental health. To show everyone
that mental health matters. And let people know that it’s okay
to ask for help. It is ok to not be ok, there is help available.
Please take a moment today to check in with your friends,
families, colleagues, neighbours and with yourself. Ask them if
they are ok and then ask them again if they are really ok and
ask yourself those same questions. Not just today but every day,
make it a part of your daily routine, starting today.
As referees we have a unique set of factors that can cause us
stress, anxiety, self doubt, loss of self esteem that those
outside of refereeing may not fully understand. Referee mental
health is often neglected and in a time when referee error and
bashing is at an all time high it is important that we look
after each other and support each other. Be aware if you or one
of your fellow match officials is struggling. Talk to someone -
let's tackle that silence together.
